I wonder if anyone could help me! We are coming over to Spain 9th December for a few days and need to hire a car from Malaga Airport...Does anyone have any idea how we can hire a car without a credit card?? We have debit cards but dont have a credit card Any help appreciated..Thanks

I think its a big No I am afraid. Don't think I have hired a car ever without a credit card.

Maybe just apply for one quickly, use it ,then destroy it.

I agree with you Sarahchirles, I must have hired at least 25 cars from all different companies at Malaga airport and all insist on a credit card, which also acts as a backup guarantee for them I guess.
Maybe one of the smaller off airport rental companies or small private operators would accept cash or Maestro....why not email them shaz51 and ask, just google car hire malaga..

I have always had to use a credit card with these though i have not used them in Malaga.

I have hired cars from Malaga airport twice with no credit card. I paid cash for the car for 1 week (both times) with absolutely no problem. The guy stands outside of the arrivals door at the airport and when I returned the cars I simply put the keys and the papers in the boot for him and gave him a ring to tell him where the car was in the airport car park.
If you think this is a bit risky then just get a taxi to where you are staying and hire a car locally, I have done this a few times and never with a credit card (I don't have one)
But I have definitely never had a problem with dealing with the guys at the airport.
Everyone is different however so it is up to you.

They want a credit card so that they can charge the card if you have damaged the car in any way, or return it unfuelled, or you get a traffic infringement. Without the card they would find it difficult to recover the charges. Consequently none of the companies I have ever used would do it.

The local hire companies in Benalmadena just take a cash deposit and you get it back when you return the car. Obviously the bigger companies do require a credit card (companies like Eurocar) but I don't like them.

Good morning to all,
I have been using the same car hire in Nerja for 20 odd years now, very rarely use a credit card. I pay on arrival, I am alays met by the same person and he escorts me to the car. They are really great, if I am travelling alone it is nice to know I don't have to wander about on my own, they make sure I have enough petrol to get to competa, and there is no hassle when returning the car, park in the car park, lock the car with ticket and keys in the boot. The cars are always good and virtually new, not like when they started up from his little garage in Nerja with a couple of old panda's, those were the days. They are easy to contact through website and always reply to e mails promptly. Hope this helps, have a look at www.autosfiesta.com .

I holiday a lot in Menorca. I use carjet.com and have always booked online with my debit card. I do not have a credit card and know that most companies insist on a credit card.

Give them a try, they are a good company,

We used car hire from malaga airport all the time, we only use a debit card as we have no credit card, they have always accepted this and we have no problems as yet, hope this helps

Well at least now I can get rid of my Black AMEX card and just hire a car on Co-op stamps!
