Default Can I run your business for a while??

Hi,

I am interested in moving to Spain for a short while, 12 to 18 months ideally. I have a good job in the UK, but currently find myself with very few commitments and in a position to realise a burning desire I have had for some time. I have always wanted to live and work in a coastal area of Spain, I am not in a position to buy or lease a business as I want to return to my career here. However, I realise there may be Brits in Spain that have a business of some kind that they want a break from for a while. I would be willing to learn and run / manage / caretake that business for them, I would not need a significant salary, I am not looking to make money - but to have the experience and do something completely different for a while. I have been dreaming of it for years and need to get it out of my system.

If you have a business, or know of someone who has a business and wants a break for a while - please do make contact with me. I can provide references, characters references and anything else required to show I am of good character etc.
I have no preference as to business type, I will consider anything (legal lol) from tourism to mainstream.

Please PM me if you think you can help.

Thank you.

Sounds like what the Nigerian who tried to rent me his "property" in Toronto said. He told us he was overseas. I assumed he would have a third party show us around the place and deal with the money. Then one day he asked me to send money via transfer to Nigeria so he could send the keys.

Look, don't take this the wrong way if you are genuine, but you'll obviously have to go through quite a lot to earn people's trust with their company.

As an ex businessman I'll be perfectly honest with you.

Over the years I was in business no one would take the running of my company over except my business partner when I was away. To put your livelyhood into the hands of a complete stranger would be complete folly.

If you are in business you never really have a proper break. Even when you are on holiday you are constantly thinking about it, and how it is going when you are not there. Imagine putting it into the hands of a complete stranger and leaving it to them whilst you are away. No .... its not going to happen. Think of another way of doing it because once all the effort has gone into building a business, no one is going to risk putting it into your hands

If you are so interested in running a business then start your own up .... you'll soon see exactly what I mean

I've been racking my brains trying to think of some sort of business where I may be prepared to leave a complete stranger in charge, but have to admit to drawing a complete blank up to now.

From what Ive gathered your business was not a small operation but where as say an expat grocery store or a cafe owner would not have to worry to much about leaving their business with someone they had checked out, the paranoid could even have a web cam linked up.

I'm thinking of taking a long holiday - maybe he could teach my Spanish classes?

The big players do it in their nationwide branches after verifying references etc , delegation , there's no other way to expand.

I know people in the "import/export" industry, mainly from South America, they are always looking for people to "front" their businesses. Maybe they might be an option?

People scratching a living with such small businesses may well have most to lose if they come back to find their customers have moved elsewhere due to poor or uncaring service.
Their success is based on the goodwill of their customers without which they may as well shut up shop.
