Hi, my husband and I have to relocate to Spain for 3 years. We own our own company, but it makes sense to do this to keep an eye on manufacturing there, as we have something critical coming up...

We are therefore looking into buying a property using money from our UK registered Ltd company. We would like to put down a deposit of around 30-40% and then obtain a mortgage for the rest of the price. Would it be possible to get a mortgage in the company name? After the 3 years, we'd use the property for 4-5 weeks per year as a benefit in kind but then rent it for the remaining period... Doable?

This needs specialist advice and I think is beyond the scope of a forum. Personally, the route I would go is to look at setting up the equivalent of a limited liability property holding company in Spain and transfer your assets into that. I would start by contacting mortgage brokers who operate in Spain. You would certainly have to use a lender with an office in Spain.

I also came across these sites which is probably one of the many companies out there that will form a limited Spanish holding company. I would be inclined to speak to a Spanish accountant first who will probably do the same thing for much less. Otherwise, there is some good information in these sites:
