Yes, ours overlooked the park.(Primrose Mansions) Walk down the back road and it was like a different world:eek: Can never understand the attraction of the place but Daughter chose it. Fairly convenient for Westminster though.

Back then Battersea was gentrifying and housing the spillover from Chelsea. Still some nasty estates around there though

Places change, sometimes surprisingly fast. I just finished a contract in Docklands, and someone who's lived there all their life (50) told me at one time people begged the council to get them away from the Isle of Dogs, it was that bad a place to live. Now a million won't get you property there - Canary Wharf.
Back in the 80s another guy who worked in local government property told me the worst housing he'd even encountered in his life was in Fulham. Changed a bit over the years! Same in Spain - I remember back in the 80s there were shanty towns close to Plaza de Castilla, Madrid (where the twin Kia towers are now). All new developments now.

Seems like you have drawn up quite the fantasy figure of me

It is the way you come across, so you are doing a great job of painting yourself as a puppet/turn coat/wannabbe/Brit hating snob.

Everything you write about anything British or the people, is in the "grinding down" tone.

If that is not the way you are maybe a "course in expressing oneself clearly in words" would be a good idea.

When you write about Brits, (which you do almost all the time) you really show your true colours and feelings about about your countrymen, little respect and petty nastiness is the theme of your posts.

If we go back to the Peseta, what will come of our favourite free newspaper?
The Peseta Weekly News?

Did someone in the distant past on this lovely thread write of the pound going up in value if the Euro is in trouble? That's what I have also thought, for years now, and the opposite has always happened.

To me it's totally illogical - but the currency speculators, unless they are all totally stupid, must know something that the rest of us don't.

And it's got to be something really big - like Princes Charles becoming King, or John Redwood becoming the next PM and declaring war on Germany.

I agree - there've been loads of us trying to predict the Euro-pound rate on here for ages. To the best of my knowledge we all got it wrong...
But if the Euro disintergrates and Spain has a separate currency again? Surely the pound would be strong initially? Or am I getting that wrong as well?

Just when we think it can't get any worse it does. A few experts have said that the rates are mainly governed by the interest rates of the countries. Right now the eurozone has the highest of the major currencies.

And would the collape of the Euro lead to a collapse in the treaties that allow us to live and work in Europe...not to mention the medical treatment.

There was a major rebellion among the Tories last week, when 80 of them voted for Britain to pull out of the EU

If this were to happen then the Brits would be on their planes home and I would be applying for Spanish citizenship :)

Unlikely for the moment. Next step is the Greece referendum, lets see what happens there

only those who have come to the end of their holidays.

what you seem to be so incapable of understanding is there are loads of expats who actually like living in Spain, Portugal or Italy - that is the countries below the 44th Parallel.
They would just be the same as those who walk around in flip-flops and table cloth in places like Malaya and Thailand.

I cannot see UK coming out of the EU, we should have been in from day 1.
But I cannot see us joining the Euro, that is a step too far, and our pulling out of the EMU after Black Wednesday has been proved right. We are not the only ones so are not in isolation.

No because the souvenier market would go through the roof, for a start there would be the "the Queen is dead. Long live the King" tea towels, eggcups, mugs, calenders, plates and plaques. ;);)
