But if someone really think things will only ever get worse, then perhaps they should be put on suicide watch. At some point there will be a bottom of the market. I'd even consider Grimsby at such low prices - unlike CM I have family links with the place and wouldn't write off a whole area. |

Why would someone not from London buy a flat there to rent out, to be successful people buy from the areas they know. My friend who worked in Hull was obviously only talking about the parents of the school she worked in. She didnt know everyone in Hull obviously, but she was shocked that people like this existed - and so many at one school Anyway, she married someone from Castleford so I think she is grounded in reality :) As for megmet, sorry, but in the town I grew up in, in the North, only people with real problems or students lived in 1 bed flats because it was so cheap to live in a house. In London it depends on the area, you can find drug dealers or millionnaires living in 1 bed flats. |

So you are a "incidental" landlord as opposed to one that chooses to make a living from rentals That is why you have the opinion that you do. 1 bed flats are the bain of landlords in many cases, due to long void periods, service charges, and the people that are attracted to live there, usually transient, going through divorce,tempory job. Families are a much better bet and houses are what they want. |

We have some terrace houses in the North East. Never seen them, myself and my Brother inherited them. They are rented on contract to the local authority. I think they are used for problem families and asylum seekers. The LA takes full responsibility for everything eg. damage, painting, cleaning etc. and there are no voids. We are satisfied with the return.

We bought a 1 bed flat in Battersea for Daughter when she got her first job. We rented it when she was sent overseas. We thought it would be OK as they were friends of friends. It was a mansion flat with lots of rules and the couple broke nearly all of them. We were being hassled by the community. They bought a German Shepherd dog (no dogs) The flat had white carpets and they were ruined with dog pee. We sold it, although how prices have risen since at times I wish we had put up with the hassle:frown:

I lived a poor life in Spain till the age of 7(although I did not know it at the time) as I was never hungry, and I dont remembermy family going to bed hungry. Whereas you claim to have lived a poor life in the UK untill the 80s, and your family members went to bed hungry by your own admission, you did not get a TV till the 80s.:confused::confused: Our experiences are not so different and our lifestyles today are not, the biggest difference is our opinion of the "less" affluent, wheras you dont know any, I do, whereas you go out of your way to erase all your old life,with the and ridicule of everything working class and British, I dont. You ooze superiority, and the scorn you poor out about the country and the people you left behind is rather sickening. You sound like a puppet dancing to the inlaws tune, I really believe that they think you are the bees knees, as they can also feel superior ridiculing all British and all things -British, and you enthusiasically nodding in agreement. My Fil and MIL would have loved such a son in law too, but they got me instead, with my own opinions and faults, and not a YES man. |

Back then Battersea was gentrifying and housing the spillover from Chelsea. Still some nasty estates around there though |
