I does seem to depend on the area and the dealer. As far as I am aware, based on the Trafico site, all that is required is an NIE and passport.

Residency never seems to be a requirement but producing a Padron certificate is often required. An escritura could also be an option rather than the Padron.

We have been looking at buying a new car and have been in quite a few main dealers, they all said the same 3 items, we would need NIE or Padron , Passport and Escritura or property rental contract
