Question Buying a car

Whats the best (easier and cheaper) option...
Buy a LH drive car in England and drive over to Spain
Or buying a car in spain? (ideally wanting a 7 seater) and will need one pretty quickly after moving there.
And if anybody knows of where to get a cheap LH drive, advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Bigger cars are harder to park, like the underground car parks and supermarkets (merecdona) . You need to look around papers, garages n so on. Make sure the paperwork is up to date too.

Would have thought cheaper here, sounds expensive from UK then fees etc here.

Looking around here, personally I dont think 2nd hand cars are a lot dearer than UK, but you do have to pay 10% admin fee, not like UK where you just tear a slip from the V5 and send off.

Some of the best buys are from fellow Brits who are selling privately, often before returning to the UK.
Also more likely to be in better than average condition, having normally received less abuse than from Spanish drivers.
Often a few advertised in expat mags. and papers.

I'd want a car that had never had to endure the cancerous experience of being liberally salted thru an english winter.

Plus you need to watch out that it has had no modifications that will prevent it failing the ITV

I bought a car in the UK from a dealer who specialises in LHD cars, it was good deal, but not so good when I sold it. May be the way to go if you need transport to get you to spain with your pets etc?

I have also bought a spanish car from spanish dealer and that was much easier. Got a fair price when I traded it.

I would suggest you avoid back street dealers and private purchase in spain. You may be street wise and able to recognise a scam in the UK, but you might find that harder here.

The car you have (by searching google images) looks ideal however we are looking to spend as little as possible

Aren’t we all, but market prices prevail!

I have also just read your other posting you are looking to move next year to Spain so this offer above, maybe too early?

Hi there, I don't know what planet some of the people who have aswered your queery are on, but trust me secondhand cars in the UK are nearly half the price of a similar car in Spain. My inlaws live in Spain and I have just spent a couple of weeks out there, my father in law paid 6000 euros for a 5 year old Seat, forget the name of the model now but the same car in the Uk would be roughly half that price. OK if you import a car from UK to Spain then there will obviously be import duty, rematriculation etc to pay but I reckon it would still work out a lot cheaper.
