A British expat mum and her son have been left homeless after Spanish officials
Seen this the other day, seems crazy.
A BRIT mum and her son claim they have been left homeless after Spanish authorities sold their home to cover her ex's debt.

She said; "There are all the TV shows showing people buying homes in the sun, especially in this area, but no one sees what happens to them afterwards and I feel there should be a strong warning to people thinking of investing any money in the Mijas Costa area until the people in authority are looked at.
"It is an area massive with tourists and people hoping to start a new life. I have seen so many people come and have sold their homes back in the UK to invest here, only for 12 months later to leave with nothing. It is heart-breaking."

Something's gone very wrong somewhere because it's practically impossible for a minor to be evicted if they and the parent(s) have nowhere else to live.
Probably need a bit more info than what's in The Sun.

Here was a bit more information https://www.clactonandfrintongazette...-pay-exs-debt/
Otherwise on the usual Mirror and Daily Mail, but they aren't much better than the Sun either:-)

Be careful with stuff like this in the Sun etc. As others have said it sounds very odd given there is a minor involved and that it had been subject to a lengthy legal battle. Clearly some aspects have been left out.

I have found this piece about this eviction. It gives a little more detail. This says they were partners rather than a married couple? It says the male partner left the female partnerv and child in 2012 and he moved to live in Indonesia per the article she has had no contact with the ex partner since he left. The authorities claim to have sent warnings notices etc but to an incorrect address. Could it be the property was registered to the ex partner and letters were sent to an address he had given/used? I must say if I were her on the basis of what she says she has been treated terribly but hard to really know without all the facts to be fair.

Yes that was my first though when I read it, ex partner owns it she and child continued living there. Without full facts it's a headline rather than meaningful story

From 2017: Nozal is also currently under investigation over suspected links to three other corruption and irregularity investigations from his time at the helm of Mijas.

It said that they owned it, who knows. Regardless who is right or wrong, Angel Nozal doesn't seem to be an Angel.

Makes you wonder:-)A report by the Guardia Civil into supposed misconduct in property sales by Mijas council between 2011-2015 has called into question the role of former mayor and local PP leader, Ángel Nozal. Nozal has also been in the spotlight recently over supposed offers of favours by the local PP to a rival Podemos councillor.
The police document says there were "irregularities" in the former mayor's involvement in the so-called "express auction" of properties by the council to new owners. It alleges that Nozal and the former councillor for Finance, Mario Bravo, had a conflict of interest between their private business dealings as property managers and their public role during the sales process.
The "express auction" case began when anti-corruption campaigners Manos Limpios reported in October 2015 that for over five years Mijas council had been arranging the sell-off of private homes, where the owners had failed to pay certain taxes, at below market rates without allegedly seeing out statutory notice periods.
The accusation says that 73 auction sales were rushed through in a month each, when the law says six months must pass to see if a better offer is made.

Of course later he was cleared of charges: https://euroweeklynews.com/2019/09/1...ed-of-charges/
