BOOKS ABOUT SPAIN
#1
It is a very long time since we had a thread for books so I suspect that there are many new books available. I feel sure that there are many members who like to read about the history of Spain or books about the various areas of Spain. So here is you chance to recommend books that you have read and enjoyed or ask for recommendations.
Do you prefer stories about life here, the history, travelogues, stories set in an area known to you or something that gives you a real feel for an area?
Long time since I read anything set in Spain so I am looking forward to what you all say.

"As I walked out one midsummer morning" by Laurie Lee is a good read. Worth re-reading.
There is "A moment of war" about the Spanish civil war too.

Spainrico and I seem to have had the same idea. So I have deleted his thread and asked him to repost in this thread because we do not want to duplicate the information from all of you.

I can recommend this.
https://www.amazon.es/Ghosts-Spain-G...dp/0571279392#
Ghosts of Spain. Travels through a countries hidden past
Its a very informative book about Spains past and is full of detail.
Well worth a read as it doesn't gloss over any of the history.

Yes the Laurie Lee books and Ghosts of Spain are all worth a read which have been published for quite a while - just found Brother against Brother (Spanish Civil War) Frank Thomas for anyone interested in the SCW.

For anyone interested in a social history of Spain I recommend Echoes from a vanished World by M. Burnett.
It’s the story of a Spanish family during the late 19th and 20th centuries which combines personal experiences with key historical events.

I have made a list of the books I have & put them in a Word table document. It's about 3 pages long! Will try to import it as a link.
I haven't included all the various travel guides such as those from Dorling Kindersley or similar.
If I don't succeed in attaching a link, then I'll do it piecemeal.
Otherwise, does anybody know if I can upload it as an attachment?
