Blue number plates

Blue number plates
I'm seeing a lot of blue number plates on vehicles, it may be me but I can't remember seeing so many before if at all. Is it a new thing and what are they for? Commercial cars/vehicles?

A quick google suggests it's uber/taxify type vehicles and that it came into effect July last year

its for all taxis & private hire vehicles with a driver (uber, cabify etc)
