Hi,
I'm looking at getting a blackberry so I can receive email from my pop3 account at the beach or bars , saving me lugging my laptop, does anyone have experience of using it in Spain, is the connection ok or is there a delay on receiving the mail?
Thanks

Stupid question, but I am technologically backward.
I have no landline in the village and will have to get a pc, a sat phone etc etc etc. plus a dish presumably, plus monthly sub and so on.
Is something like a Blackberry a valid/possible alternative, can you use skype on it and so on?

Depending on what you buy, you may be able to use the mobile device as your PC's internet connection - but subject to the speed limitations above.
Skype is *possible* over a 3G network, but not over something slower.

What would you use to give you internet connection and a free phone system like skype? Which is the most cost effective?

If you can't get a landline, then the chances are there will be a local WiFi based Internet service in your area (possibly several all competing for business!). If they're any good they'll offer an Internet + phone package of some description.

I received an email at work today, which told us that if we take our Blackberry abroad there is a daily fee of £5. It matters not if the device is on or not. The Co. use O2 at the moment.
If I were you I would check with the service provider to see if the above is true. (It might just be my Co. cutting down on cost).

i rang up our company service provider today (02)and yes it is true that you pay £5 a day or every time you turn it on to get round this you should go into mobile network in your settings and press data services the option you want is off when roaming this apparently will save you the fiver a day while abroad
for you to log on to you network that you roaming and this O2 with movistar frist hook up was 21.00 euros as i ued 3 mb to registor to there network and 5 for using it in spain told 26.00 euros every day
so becareful roaming away from home
i phones you need open internet to surf so star hang out side some place that its free lol
ha some one has to make moeny around here and not me
