In a bit of a pickle in Mallorca....
Hola fellow-Mallorcans!!We're so chuffed we can say that now! It's been a long time coming but we've finally managed to sell everything and move lock, stock and doggies to the island.
Currently, we're staying in a short-term rental in Santa Ponca but are constantly on the look out for a wee finca we can rent for at least one year. We have already viewed about 8 properties in the past 10 days (only 2 fincas amongst those) and have definitely decided that a finca (bungalow) is the way to go for us. Until late this afternoon, we actually thought we'd found the perfect place after shaking hands on the deal with the owner two days ago - but now he says he's decided not to rent it at all...which we really find hard to believe. So now, we're just wondering does this kind of thing happen often here, or were we just naïve to think that a handshake here is equivalent to a 'gentlemans agreement' - at least until the contracts get signed?
I know loads of requests get posted on here for similar type properties, but should anyone know of any available properties, then we're especially looking for somewhere along the Palma-Pollenca route...with a garage and garden, 3-4 bedrooms and minimum 2 toilets. Our budget is approx. € 750 - slightly more if there's a pool....or are we really daydreaming now?

OK, well, it's a common tactic in Mallorca to change at the last minute.
I've heard horror stories of sellers suddenly demanding €100k more at contract signing. Not unusual.
You can find all kinds of bargains on rentals on the usual local websites, but nothing is easy. You need to take the time to look at how long the listing has been posted, and if it's still on the market after a long time, make a low ball offer. They always list at a much higher price than they are willing to accept. Many times you'll get a taker. Not always, but you'll get them.
Keep at it, and make offers. Once in a while, you'll get a good deal.
You *should* be able to get a lot for €750/mo. Even with a pool. But you might have to clean it up first.
Good luck!

It's been great so far though, meeting so many helpful people here...getting lots of tips and numbers...exploring loads of stunning parts of the island while viewing houses and even got our bank acs. and NIE's sorted already! What a fab place to call 'home'! So thanks again, Ami...you are always so reassuring! ;-)

Hi again Ami...just to follow up - thanks to your advice, we stuck to our dreams and finally found a fab finca near St. Joan.
It doesn't have ch but at least there's an open fire and with summer only around the corner, I'm sure we'll be avoiding the heat in no time! Hah!
Thanks again anyway! We really appreciate all your valuably tips and advice over the last few months!
Now just to find/make a few local friends! Lol!;-)
