Re: Bin Laden Son Seeks Asylum in Spain
You know the funny thing, when all this started, in the Kuwait invasion, a wealthy Saudi resident came to the Saudi, Kuwaiti, and Western governments and offered to take care of the problem himself, he had a huge private army and he offered to expel Saddam.
Of course this would never have served the West's interests so he was not only told to F off but the US gov also put pressure of the Saudis to get his private army disbanded....
In this young wealthy mans memoirs years later he cited this snub of his offer and the subsequent attack on him personally as one of the reasons he decided to have bit of a pop at the Yanks and Saudis...
Any one wanna have a guess who this guy was? Karma for the correct guess.
There are some that say that the West brought this on themselves....

Re: Bin Laden Son Seeks Asylum in Spain
I just love the way the Spanish do it though, he arrives on a Tuesday, is refused asylum, he appeals on the Thursday, his appeal is rejected and he has to leave on the Saturday. He isn't sent to some asylum seekers camp wher he can disappear and just escape into the country, he just gets sent away, and tht's how the UK government should deal with ALL asylum seekers, they shouldn't be allowed into camps where they can be lost track of, their cases should be heard by special courts, and if they lose thay can appeal, but it must be heard within 24 hours, lose that and you are put on the first plane back to where you came from.
Can't agree entirely with that...
There are quite a few camps on the Spanish mainland and in the Canary Islands where there are non- EU citizens waiting for their asylum applications to be processed or actually just in limbo because they don't have any documentation and the government doesn't know what to do with them. Here in Huelva (in Palos de la Frontera), there is a makeshift 'township' that is a no-go area for many of the immigrants that have come to find work. Lepe has problems at the moment because many of its immigrants are out of work and there just aren't any jobs. (There are over 4000 in a relatively small town). Spain has granted amnesty to hundreds of thousands of foreign workers in the past years, something the UK hasn't done. I have a number of foreign friends (from Zimbabwe, America and Canada) that have had many problems with working visas etc in the UK, eveb though they are highly qualified teachers and other professionals. It's not that different here than in the UK, and there's just as many Spanish people complaining about it. All European countries have difficulties when dealing with foreign workers or asylum seekers, not just UK.
BTW, my Zimbabwean friend, who can't go back there, although she'd love to, doesn't receive any benefits, although she's been allowed to stay in UK on a student visa. She isn't allowed to work for more than 10 hours a week, as stipulates her visa conditions. She works those ten hours in our local college helping students with learning difficulties (they can't get any of the locals to do it) and the students love her. My friend survives on that little money and through the charity of friends (sleeping on someone's spare sofa). It's not that rosey for everyone, despite what we are led to believe by certain newspapers (no names mentioned, of course)
