Bidet and the law

Can someone please settle a discussion on our urbanisation. Is it Spanish law that all houses MUST have a bidet?

thanks in advance

How could there possibly be a law that stipulates you MUST have a bidet????

There's no requirement to even have a toilet if you didn't want one. Go in a bucket at the end of your garden if you like.

Serious question - we have been told habitation certificates will not be issued if there is no bidet!! Some nieghbours had theirs removed and now getting them put back, we were told it is the law!!!!

Ah, that's a slightly different question.

As far as I am aware (but someone with more knowledge can confirm) a habitation licence is basically just to confirm that the property is fit for human habitation, eg, has electricity, running water, waste facilities, etc. Whether a bidet falls into that category or not I have no idea, but I would imagine not as there are plenty of properties with small bathrooms where a bidet simply wouldn't fit in.

Once you have your licence you can rip the bidet out if you wish.

Certainly around here its not a requirement, and I'm not quite sure how it falls under the habitation certificate. We certainly dont have one, it was left out in the build process.

If they are included in the build then they need to be there for the habitation licence to be given, you could be refused your licence because one of your neighbours has not got theirs in place.

How come people are living there without a licence in place, I assume they are if they have changed the bathroom ?

Linda please tell me you haven't moved into the property without all the paperwork being in place i.e. certificate of habitacion is a must. Please please tell me that you have one :fingerscrossed:

Having been through this myself, the rules are;
  • If you have only a shower in the bathroom, then you must have a bidet
  • If you have a bath, then a bidet is not required

Some architects will insist that a bidet is reqwuired to get the cedula, but this is not the case.

No problem Lionda, wouldn't have got a mortgage if not safe. We have had a pool, terraces,walls hightened, porch glassed in - all liceneces received and paid for, we are end of habitations being released and the "bidet" thing came into it, I have one, some have had removed and are now putting back - was asking for a neighbour
