best VPN for an idiot
Hi, I use a VPN for downloading torrents but the one I have was probably programmed by a nuclear physicist. I find it so complicated to operate and I am never sure what I am doing. I need an idiots VPN. I have researched various suppliers and all say their product is so easy and simple to operate. That s what I was told about the VPN that I have at present.
I would very much appreciate recos please. TIA. |

Re: best VPN for an idiot
I used VPN (can't remember which) years ago and it was a nightmare.
When my buddy said you need a VPN for security etc recently I said no way but.....long story short..... Downloaded (and paid) Nord and it is really easy and never causes any problems for me. Simply connect or disconnect it...simples |
Re: best VPN for an idiot
Hi, Many thanks for that. It looks like Nord is the favourite, much appreciated.

I've only ever used free VPNs - I don't "need" one that much and find free is good enough. But for me they are a lot easier than Torrents which I could never get my head around.

Re: best VPN for an idiot
I've had no issues at all following my very occasional use - TV only, about three times a year. One of the two I use (Firefox add-ons) I have found I can connect (ITV and C4) and then immediately disconnect but carry on watching. |

Yes, I've often seen warnings but I'm not sure why any VPN provider would run a free option that draws such criticism and think they might attract people to their pay version. I certainly wouldn't be.
Edit : In fact the link above actually says this"By using Hola’s free plan on Windows or macOS, you agree to donate your IP address to its network. Any other user, free or paid, can browse the internet using your identity as a mask. That leaves you open to prosecution for someone else’s actions, and it may also let other Hola users execute malware on your computer." |
Re: best VPN for an idiot
For free ones the only one I trust is TunnelBear which is based in Canada. They have a really good app too which integrates with Chrome. Their paid service basically gives you unlimited data which is something I found worth paying for.
My main VPN though is though Witopia which is as solid as they come. 10+ years use, never an issue, everything checks out 100% so full trust in them. I have heard good opinions about Nord as well, though I haven't tried them personally. Keep in mind that to watch UK (or Australian, etc.) tv via their respective apps you don't need a VPN. You can also use a DNS service which works better for watching tv because it simply tricks the apps into believing you're a domestic viewer without routing all your internet traffic (including streaming) via servers in those countries. The two that most people use are getflix and dns4me and instead of choosing one over the other I can only add that both perform very well according to numerous people that I know who stream from abroad this way. |

Re: best VPN for an idiot
Proton is a good freevpn.unlimited data, but limited to the choice of servers you can connect to unless you subscribe. Great option if you simply want to obfuscate your actual address. Not so great for UK tv as UK server isn't included in the free license.
Alternatively Windscribe, which I subscribe to the Pro version has a free 10gb per month and connection to any of their global servers. Downside is you'd soon use up 10gb watching tv. Both are very simple to use and are limited versions of commercial VPN product rather than a free VPN app |
