Re: Beggars

We have a weekly market in Alhama, there are always lots of beggars wandering round there, holding up their placards and beseeching people for money... I did give one chap a couple of euros, but only because he had made the effort to get his violin out and play something, and it was cold. he was very grateful,

But are they gyppos or Moors? I feel the Moors get a pretty rough deal in Spain, the only beggar I know in Cullera was an oldish Spanish guy that used to hang around the door at Vidal's, I think the store's been sold now though.

The Lidls that I mentioned is in Alzira and they were definitely the local gyppos. I have never seen the elderly guy at Vidal´s which is now incorporated into the Consum so this is now a much, much bigger store.

I must admit that I have seen very few beggars in this area and it is noticeable that even these few are not around when I go shopping anymore.

Did you live in Cullera or were you visiting?

No, we're in Alberic on the other side of Alzira, we had friends in Cullera that we visited regularly, they had to bail out when the money situation went dire, their place was on the hill where the processions take place from the monastery, just above the park/museum/market. Cullera is our nearest decent beach though if you don't count Tavernes. Is Snoopy's bar still going? Pat used to work there.

Not been since before Chrismas but Snoopy´s bar was still open then. We visit the area of Cullera that your friends lived in, the people are so friendly whenever we go there to see their Falla monuments.

Love the beach at Tavernes but prefer Cullera because of the shops and the sea front walk.
