We have a non resident Sabadell, set up because we want to buy a property in Spain. I have an Irish Passport

The Sabadell account is very expensive is there anything the Wefferent account has that doesn't?

Pretty sure that you need to be EU resident to open N26 ….. you can’t open from the UK (well at least you can’t if you are honest during the registration process).

I have been using wise for 4 years and it’s great. No problems.

Wise are backed by Barclays and Morgan Stanley and so very unlikely to go under. Barclays was I recall brought by the Saudis about 10 years ago.

I don’t keep too much money there.

N26 run on top of the Wise system. It called “white labelling”. So it’s probably not a good idea to have everything in both of them perhaps. N26 though is a real bank.

i had a fraudulent use of my card on N26 and they were instantly fixing it

they do recommend to not link your n26 card to Apple Pay or Google pay . If you do you may have less leverage if any fraudulent debits occur on it.

i don’t know for sure but it’s likely to be the same situation with Wise.

hope that is helpful ? If you have any other questions just ask as I used to work in IT security for Banks.

We have one too with them, its a rip off, I am an Irish citizen, with residency now, my wife is a non EU citizen, and has applied for her residency here. Bank refuses to change it to a resident account until we both have residency as its a joint account, Time to say goodbye to them I think,

We had a joint account with cajamar and I became resident a good while before my wife and we had to remove her from the account to make it a resident account for me. I don't think you are allowed a joint account mixed resident and non resident with any Spanish bank. When my wife moved over full time she got a cajamar wefferent current account in her own name which has no charges so long as you operate it online. It works just like any other account and she had no problems in 3 years.

Thats a fair requirement as non res and res accounts have different T&C's...
And being Irish makes you better !!!! or deserve different treatment....

I have Santander and its been good both as a non and as a resident account. I have the direct phone line numbers to the assistant manager and one of the staff, just because we pop in every so often just to say Hi and always drop off a box of chocolates at Christmas.

The non res account has monthly charges and when we modified the accounts to resident they helped sort the paperwork and then told us how to stop future charges. Being nice costs nothing and because we are, we have as a byproduct saved money on account charges, get preferred rates on loans and other little bits...
Now I aint saying you have to be like me, but i treat people how I expect to be treated, fairly and with a smile.... Go somewhere expecting an argument and you will end up with one... Smile and the world is a better place...

Anyway your point about joint accounts. The same thing would happen in almost every country if you tried that so its not Spain or its banking to blame.. and why would one half of a couple who have a joint account not be a resident????

Who said I deserve special treatment because I am Irish? Certainly not me. And, i certainly don't feel the need to explain myself and my situation in detail to you,
I was just mentioning my experience with the bank.. Don't know why i even bother when i get that BS

To be fair it was you who brought it up

Caxia Hola Bank is specifically designed for foreigners, it's what I have (set up before moving) and have never paid 1c in charges but I do have 2x UK pensions paid into it every month.

Was it really? Try reading back, the poster I was replying to ref Sabadell, stated they were an Irish national, so I stated I was also an Irish national. How is that bringing it up?

The biggest benefit of the wefferent account is that it is completely free yet offers ALL of the normal services

Also tha Cajamar App is very good easy to use and has the option of English. The App for Wefferent is the same as for standard account and allows you to do all you need.
