balustrade type walling kits
#1
Anyone know about these?
Some years ago I stayed at a B&B in La Marina and the owner was building a fence with these. It seemed they were in kit form.
They are what I would call typical Spanish balustrade walling comprising a base rail, top capping rail and a number of ornate preformed vertical pieces, They are finished in white and presumably made from concrete or plaster.
Are they in kit form? any ideas on price? is it easy to do?

Never used them but I know a man who did! As far as I could work out it's relatively easy, yes it amounts to a kit but not bought in one fell swoop, you have to buy all the bits separately probably from a builders merchants. Price, don't know but I do know it's much less than wrought iron railing which is what our mate couldn't afford to put up!

The uprights have small extensions on each end that fit into the top rail and the base. Ive been taking a fair few apart, because frankly decorative iron railings look a lot better imho.
You can buy them from most builders yards and being concrete I dont think they are overly expensive

They look quite good, but need regular cleaning and painting to keep them nice and white because they soon seem to go shabby, so they can be a bit of work if you have a lot of them.

Exactly, you can paint them in the Spring and they will need it again after the summer .... nightmare

They make quite a few different textures now & quite a few that look like stone in a sandy colour (recommended for maintenance free)
Quite time consuming to erect BTW and some care needs to be taken.
