Default Baggage Fees Illegal in Spain.

Airline baggage charges should be scrapped forthwith because they are illegal a campaign group have shouted from the Spanish roof tops today.
By charging for suitcases budget airlines are ignoring legislation which states that luggage is included in the ticket price. The Spanish consumer action group called Facua said today. It claims Easyjey and Ryanair are breaking the law in a bid to boost their revenue and recoup losses from rising fuel prices.
Facua called for a ban on those charges in Spain. Both airlines were unavailable for comment so standby for either cheaper flights or prices staying as is but restructured Mrs P travels British Airways where the luggage within reason is included in the price.

FACUA-Consumers in Action is a Spanish association dedicated to the defense of the consumers, non-profit-making and independent from governments, ...

Yes I agree. I'm surprised to find out that Spanish airlines charge baggage separately from the ticket.

Charging for checking in was a sneaky trick by Ryanair to find a few pounds, but I suppose we started that slippery slope when the budget airlines first arrived and canned the in-flight meal. So one wonders what Michael O'Leary is developing for next year's bookings?

----

The price for your ticket today is 0.01p. Please choose from the following list of completely optional extras you might like to enjoy whilst travelling with us:

ON ARRIVAL
The 'normal' check-in queue for Stansted airport starts in Harlow. Please arrive at least 2 days before your flight and bring a packed lunch. Alternatively you can pay for:
[ ] Speedy check-in (£10 - at the airport)
[ ] Packed lunch for the wait (£5 per day of queueing)

BAGGAGE
In addition to suitcases, you can now pay to take any hand baggage on the flight with you.
[ ] Take hand baggage with you on the flight (£4 per bag)
[ ] Duty free (£2 per carrier bag of goods purchased)

SECURITY
Passengers will normally be strip-searched and have to empty every item out of their baggage for examination, a process which takes roughly 45 minutes. Alternatively, you can pay for:
[ ] X-ray of baggage (£2 per item)
[ ] Walking through metal detector (£5)

BOARDING
We now offer two options for speedy boarding
[ ] Speedy boarding - get through the gate first onto the awaiting bus, everyone else piles on, then it's a mad rush as you end up being last on the flight.
[ ] Speedy boarding plus - as above, but once the doors of the bus open, you get a 30 second head start to run up the steps of the awaiting aircraft

YOUR COMFORT AND SAFETY
[ ] Token for the on-board toilet (£5 per flush)
[ ] Life jacket (£10)
[ ] Whistle and light for attracting attention (£5)

ENTERTAINMENT
[ ] Menu card (£2 - required only if you wish to order food)
[ ] In-flight magazine (£2)
[ ] Scratch card (£3 Top prize: a free flight! Runner up prizes: a toilet token!)
[ ] Earplugs (£2 - help drown out that horrible Ryanair jingle)

ARRIVAL
You can opt to sort through the mountain of bags yourself, and then carry them through to the arrivals hall (no trollies provided) or...
[ ] Book a baggage trolley (£5)
[ ] Have baggage sorted and delivered on a conveyor belt (£15)

We do hope you enjoy your £yanair flight!

It's not just the budget airlines. American Airlines is the largest airline in the world and has been charging for baggage since May.
