Well SES said yesterday its launch is on the 21st July, not the 19th.
"The spacecraft will now be processed for a July 21st launch "

The it will be tested, at 43 east for a few weeks, before moving to 28, and then its a wait and see what its reception will be like in Spain.
And the protons have had a few issues this year....but then if something does go wrong, there is 2G...which is scheduled for a 2014 launch anyway.

Most of the Spain TV sellers are giving out doom and gloom and wanting you to buy Internet UKTV Boxes at €30 a month to watch..

a) but most of the reputable ones are saying - who knows what is going to happen.... so maybe best to wait... simply as no-one can say what is going to happen or what its reception will be like in Spain until it starts to transmit! Many are simply guessing that as 2E is the same make and model as 2F, reception will be exactly the same - unlikely, as the beams will not be 100% the same, and it will only be the same if the two satellites are located in exactly the same position, in exactly the same orientation - when in fact they will be located a few kms apart - which does make a difference in their beams.
and
b) there are services available that provide the same UK TV without subscription. And some of the channels on these services will still be available anyway, as they are not from the Astra satellites that are being replaced!
And there are now satellite receivers available that connect to both satellite and internet, providing the "best of both worlds".
And it is a shame that at the moment these IPTV services cannot provide full 1080 HD channels, and in fact some only have resolutions (about 430) for live TV of less than SD (standard definition - 576) - which will look awful 9ie not as sharp) on a large screen TV many people have these days.

Any discussion of "alternative" methods of programme reception (interesting as it is) should be confined to the 'Hula-hoop, Deely-bopper, CB Radio, Internet TV' thread in 'The Lounge' here on BritishExpats.
Please.

As the OP on this thread, I think I am entitled to insist that discussion be restricted to the latest news of the Astra 2E satellite, it's launch, the reliability of the latest version of Proton launch platform, debris areas and size, and rumours true or otherwise of mysterious nuts and bolts being swept out from under the satellite assembly workbenches.

Was it built by Brits? Maybe Stevie can weigh in about how it was all built in Spain using British Expat labour.

Can we talk about Samsung Tv's that have a built in satellite decoder that are connected to a router with a vpn so that iplayer works as well whilst 10-91, And shouldn't that thread in the Lounge confined for 'Hula-hoop, Deely-bopper, CB Radio, be in the lab really?
Failing that 10-26

What I mint when I penned my message was I didn't want dips like you putting everyone to sleep out of shear boredom going on about internet TV. We've already had T&I going on about crooks fleecing people in the business.
Now, where did I leave my wellies ?

Wool, that would depend on the size of the RAM ewe ewes in the decoder.

We really do not need another thread on this subject until the new satellite is in service in September and reception reports are being received.
Until then it is a pointless discussion.
