Question Asian Supermarket near Malaga?

hi,

Does anybody know of any shops that stock Asian foods and spices? Indian, Chinese, Thai etc.
I've been googling and nothing has come up.

We live near Velez Malaga in Andulucia, all views are appreciated.

The only one I know is in Fuengirola.

FaFa Foods. They have a website and do mail order. It's not a very good site but it will give you an idea.

http://www.fafafoods.com

Iranzo in Nerja have a good range of spices and sauces but the prices are ridiculous!

Thanks for that, I've had a look at their website. I'll be popping by I think.

Was really hoping to find something a little more authentic though. As in stocking stuff direct from India rather than just jars of Pataks from Uk.

Still, it's a start......

Already mentioned but we use Iranzo in Nerja as they have a decent range of spices on their shelves. Even managed to get Franks Louisiana Pepper sauce in there once.

Other alternatives we use are to to have them posted from the UK to us here in Sayalonga or when go back to the UK stock up from one of the many shops in Brighton where my daughter lives. Obviously the latter isn't very practical for you

I think you will find all the spices are the cheap Indian ones that you would find in an Asian supermarket in the UK.

Forgot to mention there's a market stall in Caletta who have a good selection of ground spices. The same stall will no doubt pop up in the other local markets although I don't recall seeing them in Torrox.

We used to live in Brighton and the Asian shops, especially Taj, were fantastic! That's the kind of place we are looking for here, but probably being a bit hopeful I guess.

Used to live in Eastbourne. I think that you should find the larger markets very useful here in Spain but do not know your area at so cannot offer you any more helpful advice.

I know this sort of stall - there's one in Almunecar market - silly prices if you are used to UK Asian prices.

Too right.

Why is it that there is a huge industrial estate near the airport in Malaga entirely occupied by Chinese and there isn't a single Chinese food supermarket anywhere?

The last time I wanted a lot of stuff I placed a huge online order in the UK and got a friend to bring it out. These were the people http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/

I have found some small companies that charge UK postage rates to Spain but these are usually for small, specialist orders.

That's the one we use as my daughter lives on Norfolk Square maybe 1 or 2 minutes walk from it. Always want to get far more than we can bring back tho.

Fred... Like you I thought with all the chinese cloths stores around there must be some shops where cooking ingredients could be sourced as I am partial to a plate or two of Asian food. Dissapointingly the best we came up with reasonably locally were the options already mentioned.

There was an Asian provision store in Competa for a while but it shut down over a year ago when the owners moved their Thai restaurant down to Torre.

Because Spanish people would never think of eating Chinese or Indian food at home

I think I've only once gone to a none-Spanish restaurant with Spanish people in Spain, and that was to a Mexican, which is exotic food for a Spaniard.

My in-laws for example have never eaten a handburger, a curry, a kebab or a burrito (or know what one is) and would never dream of doing so. And these are pretty wordly people, not exactly people who've never left the village
