Default Anyone know a chef??

Hi everyone,

Just wondring if anyone knows or is a chef moving or already moved to spain. I'm thinking about the move with my girlfriend and baby daughter and would just like to get some info what being a chef is like out there.

Thanks for any replies, as always they are well recieved.

I have a friend who was a chef, he also ran pubs in UK and had a lot of experince generally in the hotel trade in England

he moved to Spain in the hope of finding similar work, he didnt speak Spanish

he couldnt find work so ended up cleaning villas and labouring fo a building company

he has since returned to the UK with his family and is now working a hotel manager

I know of one in Jerez. He's been here a couple of years and got a chef job in a big restaurant. He seems happy enough, but I have no idea what he earns here or how that compares to the UK.

To officially work handling food you have to have a certificate manipuladores de alimentos. It is quite easy to obtain with some basic Spanish.

Now it looks as if there could be an opening here! (sorry no tongue in cheek simile)

Glad to see they use Galician beef...we feel it it is some of the best to be had too. (
