anyone have kids in primary schools in torremolinos?
Can anyone who has kids give us more info on primary schools in Torremolinos please? In particular La Paz and San Miguel. Within the general scheme of things in a state school, are they ok? Which would you choose if you had to choose one or the other? (and unfortunately all other schools in the area are not an option due to the ludicrous system here!) We have been warned off Palma de Mallorca so these other two are the only two options left now. Thanks.

Hi, have friend with children in school in Torremolinos, have asked her about the two school mentions and she says San Miguel is very bad, La Paz she believes is good, but said " tell them to steer clear of san miguel", good luck in your search

Thank you.
We are currently embroiled in wranglings for a place which was "robbed" by a family who have two children currently at school in Barcelona, who applied for places in Torre as they are "empadronado" here, but the Malaga educación department is now saying that this is not permitted, as they do not actually live here (the age old problem of registering in another address, but this time the geography speaks volumes, how can they go to school in Barcelona and live here!). Does anyone with any legal knowledge think this is allowed? It smells very fishy to me!

how did they get the kids into school in Barcelona? - surely they must be empadronado there to get them into school?
maybe they are moving over the summer so signed on the padron in Torre early in order to get the school they want?
surely that's not allowed though? - they'd be saying they live there before they actually do
fraud?

This is what we are saying. One of the 2 children is of obligatory school age and is currently studying in Barcelona, (as is the other who would be "stealing" our son's place) which means that so is his parent or legal guardian, so as far as I am concerned, the empadronamiento here is technically illegal, surely? They should have to wait until they actually live here to apply for a school place, which was the situation we were in when we moved here when the school year had already started. This might seem a bit harsh in one sense, but surely kids who are already living in an area take priority? We have tried 3 years running to get him into the school 50 yards over the road but there is no priority given for time in the area, so every year something happens to thwart us. It's a nightmare...! And it's the usual paper chase and everyone passing the buck to the next person... As far I know, there is no system of "transfers" within the Spanish school system, especially with different autonomous communities.

round here, siblings in the school gives extra 'points', then living in the area - I don't know if length of time in the area carries any weight

Re: anyone have kids in primary schools in torremolinos?
We had spoken to the local delegate here but no joy, so went to Malaga and the person who saw us gave us more evidence to support our claims and seemed to think we had a good case (amazing when you go there expecting to be sent off with a flea in your ear!), but of course we now have to do the papeleo and see what happens. It all whiffs of "palanca", everything about their application is all wrong, but no-one else seems to have noticed it, or have chosen not to for some reason.... so yes, we think we may have a chance to getting somewhere.
