Anyone ever claimed expenses for hospital visits?

I have recently clocked up around 900kms over 28+ visits to my local hospital for radiotherapy treatments. At the end of the treatments last week, they gave me a 'Solicitud ayuda trasporte' detailing all my dates, etc. of visits.

From the Valencian gov website I have downloaded the 'Solicitud de reintegro de gastos de traslado y dietas' form and started filling it in - only for advanced form fillers!! (which I am not quite)

My question is, has anyone ever made a similar claim, and how do you decide how much to claim - I would have thought there was a standard €s per km but have not found that...any input (especially from the Valencia region) would be gratefully received.

You could go with the AEAT definition which is 0,26€/km.

Thanks DLC, brilliant suggestion.

Update - downloaded the relevant 'solicitud' and completed it online (very easy to open PDF and fill out relevant boxes) then took it to relevant Valencia government office in Alicante (no vcta previa req, no numbers and no queue!) the lady registered it (explained I could submit it online if I had a digital certificate/CLAVE) took about 10 mins and that was that. Now I wait for some money to arrive in my account.

Good to know it was accepted.

Well, it is in the system, see what money arrives and how much they pay - just intrigued by the system - can't imagine this happens in the UK?

Only for people on benefits or with a low income

Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS) - NHS

When my father was in hospital for 6 months before he died, my brother was able to get a pass giving him free parking at the hospital when visiting, otherwise it would have got pretty expensive.

I'm glad the application process proved to be straightforward for you, hope the end result is good.

Expenses can be claimed through the NHS in the UK under certain conditions.

Good to know people in the UK can get some help with their costs - especially parking, which I hear can be outrageously expensive.

Last time I was involved with NHS parking it was North Manchester General, visiting Mother so 18 years or so ago. 5£ to feed the machine, on one occasion the machine siezed and would not give me a ticket, Aircraft Engineer's solution I hit it, and it pumped out money seemingly forever but in fact only £35. Paid for a few visits though.

Slightly off topic but hospital related. I dont understand why when you have an hospital appointment and they give you a sheet with a prescription added to it when you go to the pharmacy you pay full price for the medication. Why is that different to the prescription added to your card at the centro salud? Usually the medication prescribed by hospital doctor is quite expensive.

Is it a private hospital? If so, that happens and to get your money back you go to a social security doctor to get the same thing put on your card then you can go to the chemist and get a refund, if you told them when originally buying that you're going to get it refunded and they gave you the receipt with the cut-out barcode stuck to it for later. At least that's how it goes in Catalonia.

Remember that medicines can be prescribed that do not qualify for any subsidy and must be fully paid for.

Following my recent radiotherapy and consequently my defences are low, I have contracted shingles - and my (OK) local doctor prescribed 2 lots of pills, which I contributed 10% for, but the cream I had to pay 100% for, which was 36€.

On the flip side, my post radio pills are totally free (no 10% contribution) they are issued by the hospital pharmacy and cost 1200€!! (the cost is on the sheet of paper I have)

This may be a bit out of date, but it gives you the overall system

Not private public hospital it seems strange that they don't put it on your card via the computer as they do when you see your doctor at Centro salud. They give you the sheet outlining details and treatment with the medicine added on to take to the pharmacy.

Maybe it's something social security doesn't subsidise? In that case the box isn't perforated around the barcode so the chemist can't easily remove it and stick it to their sheet.

Otherwise I'm not sure... something specific to your region maybe.
