Fairly typical Spanish coastal town, although a little bit cramped, and a traffic bottleneck.
Some good value restaurants,night-life nothing special but you are only a few km from Benidorm for that.
Also a good train service and station alongside the main road giving cheap and easy access to many nearby towns of interest.
I think the work situation, as in most of Spain is probably not good.

I have an apartment in Altea, in the old town (the bit up the horrible hill!). It's a town that definitely considers itself to be a cut above the average Costa Blanca town, no question.

It's a lovely town, with many restaurants and fiestas. Which, it has to be said, are very noisy.

If you don't DO noise, don't consider Spain. And if your night out of fun is going to Benidorm, then you'll hate Altea. They really don't accept drunken tit-bearing in bars or such.

Thank God.
