Any motorcyclists in here?

Hi there, newbie to this forum and I was just wondering how many other expats there may be here who are motorcyclists? Perhaps we could list location with a view to organising the occasional meet for blasts and maybe bike types for interest.......?

I'll make a start with:

Rosas Catalunya as me location

Ducati 749
Suzuki GSR600
Honda 600 hornet

Hi Courageous and welcome to British ex pats, you could try a search on the blue bar above, also look in the free beer thread, loads of info in there.
There are quite a few bikers on here XTreme comes to mind, you could do a search on his threads although with your thread title he will soon find you, he posted some nice pictures the other day...good luck and stay safe.

Thanx bigbuddha. Yes I saw that thread but it doesn't quite go where I'm looking to go. I shall try a search (was being a little lazy) and am really looking for info on anyone with this interest, specifically location.

Thanx though!

Your welcome...I still think EXTreme may be your man, he is a mad keen biker, I am sure he will confirm at some time.

Re: Any motorcyclists in here?

MnM hehe! Courageous on a motorsickle I ain't!!! I was reluctant to get back into bikes after an absence of 15yrs as a measure of my lack of courage. I kept seeing, hearing and reading of tragic accidents. I believe there is less requirement for courage on the roads and more for common sense and respect. Anyhow - soapbox put away again for now and back to the quest......

I have a suzuki hayabusa but its in the uk, it will be coming over permanently in the next year or two! The roads are too good in Murcia not to have a bike in Spain;)

A bus! How cool is that? My oppo has one here in storage in Figueres as he just got relocated to Liverpool with the Job. Tried it once. Blimey! Was up to 250k in a heartbeat and then a corner loomed so I just pulled over to a stop hehe! Nice smooth power delivery I have to say. Get it down here quick smart!

You called?
Riding consistently since 1971....owned 55 bikes over the years....and I avoid rain like a dose of the clap!
Normally got road and trail bikes, but at the moment it's down to the TDM 850.....though I'm on the lookout for a DRZ400 at the right price.

fifty bloody five bikes? Short attention span or summat???? I first rode in 75 so we go back aways don't we? As mentioned on the other thread I blew out around 1990. Why? Dunno actually. Wanted to come back into the fold in 97 but a job where a cold puts you out of action let fear take a hold. Overcame that just under 3 years ago with the combined efforts of the spanish climate and the roads. Very fortunate in these particular parts with the pair'o'knees jus up the road..... Nice to meet ya - where abouts is Huescar?

XTreme Jan 4th 2008 6:56 am

Re: Any motorcyclists in here?

Huescar is in NE Granada......midway between the cities of Granada and Murcia!

ok darn sarf then....... there's two of us down that way then so far.........

XTreme Jan 4th 2008 7:11 am

Re: Any motorcyclists in here?

The problem I have is lack of time to ride.....I'm normally working up to 100 hours a week. I've only done 900 miles on the TDM in the last five months!

Courageous Jan 4th 2008 7:18 am

Re: Any motorcyclists in here?

I can relate to that. On one hand have started and run my own business and on the other now feel like any time spent on my bikes is denying my girlfriend and young son my time...... Luckily I am able to commute on the bikes when the weather permits (like you the need to ride in rain and cold has long since passed me by). I still hold onto the selfish gene and get out for a few hours on the duke for a proper run (or push hehe!) each week.

Been here for nearly five years now working for Ryanair Girona based.

Nice one! You must be pretty familiar with Spain now then!
Different attitude to motorcycling out here isn't there? If people have a bike (irrespective of type) they all ride together.....whereas in Britain everybody keeps to their own little groups.

Hehe! Thanks. Familiar with Spain? Yeah but it continues to throw up a lump of shit from time to time still...... Love it though. Yes the bike scene is great.

Another biker up here near Girona!

We've got 4 bikes at the moment.. although only 2 work. (Oops). Better than before we moved out here and we had 10 bikes.

Don't get too excited though, they aren't fancy bikes or anything:
2 yamaha xs650s (one now on spanish plates - wooHOO!), a Honda NTV650 (which is the manky rat work bike), and a Triumph Bonneville hardtail chop.

The bike scene, we've found, (and maybe you could let us know differently!), is very Harley Biased. A lot of the rallies specify 'Harley or Indian only' so, of course, we don't go. Which is a shame. And the runs for the classic club I'm a member of - well, they all start at 7.30 on a sunday morning.. (!!!) I don't start at 7.30 on a sunday morning...!! hehe

torie - 4 bikes and 2 work. Is that you alone or are you saying 4 bikers near Girona? If you have 4 how many others are there that you know about and are you in regular contact for rides etc?

KLF - the 748 remains legendary. I'm still trying to work out if I'm in love with my 749 (they're far from the same thing IMHO). Am still running it in at the moment and it has given me some inconvenience in a knackered battery which Moto expert in Figueres AND Girona refused to replace even though the bike was only 3 months old GRRRRRRRRR! Am going to give it a while longer to see how she performs at the first shag and if I'm still not enamelled then I'll be looking for a blade to replace. I hear the latest gixer is the dogs though??? Do you still have yours and where in YOUR world is MuMu land?

Hello mate.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with your Duke. I fortunately never had a ny problems with any of them although the first one only lasted 3 days till some kind lady pulled out in front of me and the bike was written off. :curse:

Had to sell the gixer prior to emigrating, not worth the expense to ship it out to Brisbane. It was a K3 and was just a rocket in it's time until the Kawasaki brought out the ZX10. Love the new blade, got to be in black though. :D

If the 749 is the first twin you've owned it'll take a while to get used to it, it did me. In the early days I often thought did I really like it? I did.

Nice avatar mate, seems very familiar. ;)

Thanx KLF - Is the white duster from my Royal Navy days. Username likewise..... You still in OZ then?

My issue with this Duke is riding position - feels awkward almost like my feet are ahead of my arse hehe! Maybe they are!

Yes still in Brisbane.

Are your wrists killing you yet. It soon goes as they get used to it.

It is a more extreme riding position.

I know what you mean by the crusier market. We were out the first week in December and travelling to the airport on the last day we came across a 'pack' of em, must have been 15 bikes all line astern. All travelling at 55k per hour. Trouble was the road was long and straight and signed at 100k!!! How stupid is that? So just pulled out and screwed the rental car into the ground to make my pass:rofl:

Have a read in the free beer thread at the top of the forum page about licences, and as long as the bike is insured for Europe use it is OK to travel there.
