My petition:

Demand Spain Evict Squatters Within 24 hours Of Police Being Notified

Contact the Spanish PM and Minister Of Home Affairs demanding they amend their current laws regarding squatters. Their laws are biased towards squatters taking ownership of peoples properties and belongings leaving owners homeless and bereft of all their personal possessions sometimes for years.

Demand that the Spanish Police take immediate action when squatters are reported in an owners property. Evict them immediately if they have no written permission signed by the owner. Allow owners the option of cutting off all utilities rather than legally forcing them to pay for all the squatters usage. Currently Police will do nothing unless squatters are caught 'red-handed' . Eviction then has to go through the Spanish Court System which can sometimes take 1-4 years.

Would it not be more sensible to petition the Spanish government? I cannot see the UK government getting involved in attempting to change Spanish law.

Hola,

It would be good for BOTH governments to change the squatters rights laws

Here is a template of a petition that can be submitted to Spanish senate but I cannot speak Spanish. Also look at all the confidential information that people will have to enter.

Even worse , look at the bolded section further below which means they won't even accept the Petition.

-------------------------------------------------

Formulario Derecho de Petición (senado.es)

Written petitions must be submitted including the name of the petitioner or petitioners, nationality and address for the purpose of notifications, the addressee of the petition as well as the subject.

A form is provided for the submission of petitions, although its use is not mandatory, with petitions accepted in any written format as long as the aforementioned details are included.

Right of petition

Last revision 01/19/2021

The right to petition is a fundamental right exercised by all natural or legal persons, regardless of their nationality, as established in article 29 of the Constitution and developed in Organic Law 4/2001. This law may be exercised both individually and collectively, and consists of the faculty to submit petitions to public authorities, either to make them aware of certain facts or to request their intervention, or both at the same time. However, this right does not apply to petitions for whose satisfaction the legal system has established specific procedures, or those that are already being addressed by a parliamentary or administrative procedure or by legal proceedings.

It's not a joke to people who have got squatters and where Spanish Govt has blocked the right to raise a petition on their own website against laws already in place.

Also, the more aware British people are about the terrible squatter laws in Spain , the less inclined they will become to purchase a property in Spain , which will damage their rental market.

They could "deal" with France at the same time.

They cannot even agree on a license exchange pact and from past examples - the British government does not provide much support to people who leave the island.

This is just a waste of my taxes that could be going to a better cause.

The British people could possibly change Spanish law by refusing to holiday in Spain.

But I doubt many of them have any idea of this problem and most want the cheapest they can get.

As the UK has LEFT the EU, I very much doubt that the Spanish Government will take any notice of what is, in effect, an internal Spanish problem, perhaps the law in Spain does need to be changed, but petitioning the UK government will do no good whatsoever, even if it did receive the required number of signatures the petitions committee will, no doubt, dismiss is as not something the UK government can interfere with.

Even being in the EU, a country can not interfere in the domestic law of another country.
