Almeria desert
#1

I would like to visit this area in the next few days.
Does anyone know of the best places to see this as desert countryside?
I drove along the A340a through Sorbas and Tabernas a few years ago It WAS RAINING.
I have no interest in seeing the old film sets

Sorbas to Tabernas is about the best of it, getting progressively more desert towards Tabernas. Then either off to La Rioja or up towards Gergal. Or alternatively between Nijar and Carboneras there's the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata (so chosen by the Junta because there's nuttin' there).
In all, it's more sort of 'scrub' than the Sahara.

Cabo de Gata has some of the finest virgin beaches in Spain and Europe. It is a little paradise of coast line, beaches and natural dunes which is why it is protected!
I spent a fantastic three days there and will be going back this year if possible

Whilst I would agree Caba de Gata is a beautiful place, I wouldn't call it a desert.

The Bay of Genoveses just east of Cabo Gata is one of the most beautiful bays in Spain.

Well, the playa has sand on it, but I am sure we all guessed that. However, the Parque stretches inland all the way to Nijar and beyond, into rolling hills of... desert.
