Advice please.
Hi I am new to the forum and would like to introduce myself.
My name is Lynne and I live an hour inland from Almeria. My husband and I came to visit Ayamonte a couple of weeks ago something, we have been meaning to do for some time. We thought the atmosphere in Ayamonte was very friendly. If you could give us any more information, what the weather is like in winter, What people tend to do,living in Ayamonte, buying property in the town,(we are not to bothered about living near the beach.) Anything else you would like to recommend,we would be most grateful. Lynne. |

Buying http://britishexpats.com/forum/ayamo...-esuri-839870/ The useful information thread on the main page, Restaurants http://britishexpats.com/forum/ayamo.../#post11652806 Lots of info on the golf in the area, things to do etc. Its very difficult, without writing a 'thesis' to explain everything (of which a lot may not be relevant to you) and easier to answer more specific questions you have. I can say that problems aside (- and there are lots, as you will see on the pages) .... The majority of people love it here - even with the crisis all around - and appreciate the thriving (mixed nationality) community and the Spanish and Portuguese way of life on the doorstep.... We certainly do! Good luck Jon |
Re: Advice please.

Re: Advice please.
Hi Lynne we have going to Ayamonte for about 10 years and bought an apartment in Costa Esuri almost 4 years ago.We love the area it's a lovely friendly town,a place where you feel safe walking about even late at night.Of course a big advantage is being so close to Portugal and taking in a different culture and all the delights that can bring to you.Overall it's a relaxing place to spend your time and we love it.

Re: Advice please.
Thank you glaisboy, that is just what we thought when we visited.
Can you tell me,do you live there all the time or is it a holiday home, also Costa Esuri,is that a golf course, and how far away from the town centre. Kind regards, Lynne. . . |
Re: Advice please.
Hi Lynne we don t presently live out there we visit around 4 times a year as we still work in the UK but many Brits do.The golf course & clubhouse are near entrance into Esuri but most people can walk.My apartment is a 20 minute walk away.Ayamonte town centre is a 10-15 minute drive and the beaches are around 25-30 minute drive. We like the Portugese beaches but Punta Moral area on the Ayamonte Coast has lots of cafe bars with Sky sports etc and most bars have English speaking staff but they appreciate it if you try to converse in Spanish. On Esuri there is a small mini market which doubles up as a bar and a very nice cafe-bar called Hoya 19 which has been run poorly up to now I will visit in June to see if it has improved at all.Overall we find the whole area relaxing, friendly and when the weather is hot the place I want to be.

Re: Advice please.
Hi Lynne
We have a second home (we don't think of it as just a holiday home) and love it for too many reasons to mention. Lots of friendly people. The local residents association organises social events which are well attended by all nationalities. There is even a bus service: It only runs 3 times a day and isn't well used at the moment but hopefully this will improve into the summer (I would hate to lose it after the trouble taken to get it in the first place). Ayamonte is a lovely town and a short ferry ride/drive takes you to Villa Real on the Portuguese side if the river. As for the weather in winter: we are not permanent residents so may be corrected but have visited every month of the year. It can be wet and it does get cold at night but we have found that most days we can sit outside to eat lunch. We had a BBQ at New Year and have had several in December and February. Because of the way most houses are constructed (to keep out the heat in summer) it can be warmer outside than in and heating is needed at night. Kath |
