advice needed
Hope someone can help! My sister in law, who lives near Pedreguer, near Denia, has been told she has stomach cancer. She apparently had an ultrasound scan yesterday and was told she has cancer in the stomach, secondaries in the liver. It is inoperable, according to the doctor. She has been told she has weeks rather than months to live. She was given no painkillers, and has made an appointment to see a GP, who can't see her till next Tuesday.
Can anyone recommend an English speaking clinic who specialise in cancer treatment in her area? She has no Spanish language knowledge.
This is the second time I have had to post on here for advice regarding tratment for cancer, and this is for another member of my family. Talk about bad luck.

I can make a phone call to a neighbour in Spain tomorrow if no one comes along in the meantime. I am sure they will have the info for you.

Hi Sally,
Really sorry to hear about your sister-in-law.
I don't know of any oncologists as such, but our GP at Clinica Britannia (private practice) in Calpe speaks perfect English and so does the receptionist at the Clinic. There are a multitude of doctors there, but I can't remember if there is a cancer specialist. Perhaps she can call and find out or make an appointment with the GP and take it from there:
GP Dr Luis Cebrian, Clinica Britannia, Avda, Ejercitos Espanoles, 16 Calpe
Tel 96 583 75 53

Is your sister-in-law in the UK at the moment (I wasn't sure because of your reference to a GP). It's just this must be frightening enough without having the language barrier to deal with too. Would she not be better seeking treatment in the UK, at least to get a second opinion?

No, she is living out there full time, alone, whilst BIL works abroad. She is already talking about coming back to the UK to go into a hospice. Our feelings are that she has had very little investigations. She has simply had blood tests and an ultrasound scan then the doctor made his diagnosis. He apparently hasn't given her anything for the pain.
She tells us she can no longer climb the stairs as it's too painful, and is sleeping on the sofa downstairs.
My BIL (who is in Singapore, working) is making arrangements to fly to Spain now.
Thanks to Ghenkis Khant for the pm...karma on it's way!

Re: advice needed
I have spoken to my neighbour in Denia who frequently accesses local medical services but they have to communicate in Spanish. She is going to check with another neighbour, so if I get some info I'll report straight back. Meantime, as I've mentioned before, Help of Denia have a bank of translators.

Oh Sally,
I can't believe how much awful news you and your family have had to contend with just recently
I'm so very sorry to hear the news about your sister-in-law.
I'm afraid I don't know anything about oncology services in that area.
I did a Google search and found this http://www.costablanca-news.com/serv...ide%202007.pdf
It may or may not be of any use??
Pages 11 12 and 24 might give you some contact numbers to try?
I'm sure you are absolutely blown away by this latest news
I do hope that your sister-in-law can find some help and support close to home.
Thank goodness her husband is on his way home now. She must be feeling very isolated at the moment.
Sending you some positive vibes, in the hope you can keep your chin up.
Love Sam.

Re: advice needed
MIL is obviously upset. Added to that she learnt today that the hospital think she (MIL) will probably need chemo. 2 sessions of 9 weeks at a time. She said to me that perhaps she should not think about moving out with us until all this is over. I pointed out that the removal costs would be ridiculous, and what is more I am certain we can organise to continue her treatment once we are out in Spain. (Truth is, I have no idea how we will go about it, and am shaking in my boots at the prospect, but I wouldn't dream of letting her know this).
I asked her if she had changed her mind about moving, but she is adamant that she wants to do it, just is worried that it will be all too much for Terry and I to cope with, trying to organise the move and her treatment.
If anyone had told me 12 months ago that we would be almost sold (have an appointment to go and sign contracts next Wed, with the view to exchange before Xmas), having to deal with all that has gone on with MIL (who, until this had NEVER been ill in her life) and now SIL, I would have laughed in their face.
Amazing what can happen in 12 months?
