Default Advice Much Appreciated!!!!!!!!

hello to all,

I am currently researching a move to Spain but am concentrating on the Balearic Island of Mallorca - I would appreciate any advice on offer. I am due to travel to Palma this July ‘07 for 4 weeks to undertake the CELTA course which on succession will enable me to teach English, ideally I would love a position in Finance as what I am qualified. I have an 11 year old son who I know is excited but at the same time a bit apprenshive regarding the project and any advice to settle him would be much appreciated and theres also the area of schooling??.
I would go tomorrow if I could but unfortunately more complicated - I want everything in as much order as possible. I currently study spanish also - really enjoy the class and doing very well but still a long way off fluency!!!
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond.

I am sure they were -

Well - advice in general Big Pete - i too am still living at home - have to wait until July is overwith before I can commit myself to any major plans - I would love a job in Finance but the course I will undertake it to enable me to teach English!! - i decided on it as a security blanket to be honest!!

I havent totally researched all avenues but would like to aim for the North / N-West or the South West regions - was 4 days in Can Pastilla just a few weeks ago - it was lovely but dont consider it as an option for settling!!!

I am really looking forward to my anticipated move and am soooo anxious wish I could go tomorrow!!!

It is good to beable to converse with individuals with the same action plan and I am glad I stumbled across this site as everyone to date has been helpful and very welcoming!!!

so I can only look forward to further contact!!

Hi there WEEC.

I too am hoping to teach English when I move to Spain. I did a TEFL course earlier this year. I’m moving to an area where it’s almost impossible to find a job if you don’t speak a very high level of Spanish so I realised that a TEFL qualification would be the best option for me to find work. I wanted to do the CELTA course, but A: I couldn’t afford it and B: I couldn’t devote 4 weeks of my time. Whilst my course was excellent and I now have a TEFL qualification I am very aware that it’s not CELTA or Trinity – which you really need if you want a decent teaching job e.g. in an academy. Anyway, luckily my partner has a contact who needs someone to run English classes, so I’m sorted. I assume your course will include some teaching practice?

I wish you lots of luck.

Hi Kyla,
Its so good to hear from someone setting out the same - and you are so lucky to have got sorted with the job front!!

Well, I decided on the CELTA course back in Sept and my current boss lost his breath when I informed him I needed the full month of July!!

I am just a tad apprenshive leaving my son for the 4 weeks also but he is in good hands with his grandparents and what lies ahead it for both our beneift!!

Yes CELTA was expensive - I had to cancel a holiday I had booked for October in order to fund it ( sacrifices do have to be made) - yes it entails alot of teaching practice - I am a bit worried as the word 'stress' seems to pop up quite alot with ref to it!!

I attend spanish classes at the minute also and doing really well but not quite fluent - may be better to be in among spanish tongues though - going to class once a week doesnt really cut it!!!

Thanks for the contact and all the best of luck to you also - hope all goes well and you could maybe keep me updated when you can!!!
