Advice about alicante
Hi, First post and already in uncharted waters, My wife and I (60 and 55) are seriously thinking about moving to Spain from the UK.
After looking online at various areas, Alicante seems like a good area to settle for cost of living, and having an expat community close by. We are coming over at the end of April so we can see if its right for us, but don't really know where to stay around Alicante . We are looking to integrate with the locals (so we are planning to learn spanish) but we would like to be located in an expat community to make new friends.
Can anyone give us any advice on where we should stay when we come over...(Any advice would be appreciated...) Cheers Phil

Hi Phil, welcome to Britishexpats.
My wife and I are doing the same as you, staying in Alicante from the end of April to the end of May. We have rented a villa overlooking the golf course in Ciudad Quesada through a company called JK Villa Rentals. If you find a villa on their website that you like, don't go by the advertised rental costs. Enquire by email as to what the best price for the property would be. We have paid significantly below the advertised price and although it is not an amount I would want to pay long term, it is certainly exelent value for what we will be staying in. The company have been exellent to deal with so far.
We intend to travel around looking at areas around Alicante and down towards Murcia that might meet our needs for a longer stay with a view to taking on a 3 to 6 month winter rental at the end of the year. That would give enough time to tell whether we wanted to make the move on a more permanent basis.
Hiring a car for the month was expensive but we felt it was necessary to enable us to travel around the way we want to.
Good luck with your trip.
John

Wait until next week . If the deal is not voted for and they vote not to take no deal off the table you might find you have to change plans ( unless you are pretty wealthy

Hi, Thanks for the replies, all very good advice and I will take it in like a sponge...We will wait until after the vote to confirm our plans but we would like to rent somewhere to the north of Alicante on the outskirts to get a feel for the place. Any suggestions where the expats are, (are there many in L'Albufereta or Playa De San Juan).
We are planning to airb&b to keep the costs down and it would be nice to meet up with a few of you for a few drinks and discuss your experiences if possible... Cheers Phil.

H guys, thanks for the replies, Albir, Altea, Campillos are all a bit to far away for us as we wanted to stay closer to Alicante, Elche sounds more positive though, are there any expats living there that can give us a few pointers please...

I don't know about expats, but these towns and others are on the main tram line from central Alicante.

Elche is inland and not connected by the tram system (but it does have a railway station)
The tram is excellent but only covers north of Alicante and inland to San Vicente (where the university is located)
