It's not that I'm arguing with Ari, (nice attempt at deflecting btw) I'm just amazed you see no difference between science and scientific knowledge. The one is the product of the other. What is the difference between "What is science?" and "Do you know what science is? " That's like arguing a difference between "What is a doctor?" and "Do you know what a doctor is?" I take it from that that you neither know what science is, or what is science. To be honest, I figured as much. I think you are getting yourself confused, you didnt even realise time was a resource So next time you are talking to God are you going to find out if he had a hand in knocking out an american helicopter resulting in loss of life.? |

You don't know what science is either, do you? Life means so much more than science. Its a feeling. But I dont even know what size shoes god takes. |

but my god said that I was to have nothing to do with false gods so I cannot talk to you unless you can tell me why you knocked that helicopter out of the sky As for shoe size. You are willfully misunderstanding. I said, if there is a god, then science, given the resources, will be able to tell you what shoe size he takes. You said you wanted to know. I never said I knew. I'll be happy to undertake a research project to start accumulating data, but it will cost. There's a huge difference between saying 'If the moon is made of cheese, science will be able to tell you what sort of cheese, and saying 'The moon is made of green cheese.' The second is a statement that requires proof. Like the angels, extreme claims require extreme proof. You see, if angels are real, then they are subject to science. If they are real they have dimensions, they have properties, and science can then tell you what they are. But since they are bullshit, they never have to face up to reality, which is why idiots believe in them to the exclusion of all common sense. |

Life means so much more than science. Its a feeling. But I dont even know what size shoes god takes. Life isn't a feeling. Life is self replicating organisms doing wonderful, amazing things, but you need science to see and understand it all. So if angels are real, tell us some facts about them. It's a characteristic of real things that they are made of factual stuff. |

Paintermujer got it right when she pointed out the futility of the amateur scientist's dry evaluation of life, without feeling, without anything of any human consideration; just the ramblings of an uninformed robot, spending hours on Wikies and believing the convoluted nonsense on there. Basically, we are here to procreate our species, a process 'someone' has made as pleasant as possible. Because of it, we are endowed with feelings and sensations that have got sweet ****all to do with science. |

Because of it, we are endowed with feelings and sensations that have got sweet ****all to do with science. Oh please don't tell me you are a creationist. No-one made sex pleasureable, it evolved that way because if it was unpleasant, it wouldn't get done. Only the fittest survive to breed. That's the secret. Take any goldilocks planet, and pretty soon it will turn green as the bacteria evolve. That process is amazing, wonderful, and all down to chance, but at each step there was a logical reason why this one went left and the other right. Ok, I'm tired of waiting for someone with enough reasoning to say this. Science is asking questions. That's all there is to it. To ask questions, and to question the answers, and never, ever stop questioning everything, especially what you most want to be true. Religion is bad science, because they ask questions, but accept other people's answers unquestioningly. Angel girl wants to explain the world, which is science, but does so using a construct that isn't hers, and she accepts it unquestioningly. She has to because it is flimsy stuff and can't tolerate the weight of critical reasoning. You are a bright guy. Why are you so stupid as to talk of "the futility of the amateur scientist's dry evaluation of life, without feeling, without anything of any human consideration; just the ramblings of an uninformed robot, spending hours on Wikies and believing the convoluted nonsense on there." I have never said that. All I say is that life and everything that goes on has a logic and a pattern to it, even if you are the dice man, because that too is a pattern. I have spent decades observing, questioning, and at every step hold up all that I'm told and checking it against trustworthy benchmarks. Your helicopter went down for a reason. It is unlikely that it was angels, and as for an act of god, puh-leeze. A god that small minded would be an abomination. |

Politeness makes me reply that I totally disagree with your assertions, your views are 'maverick' ones, way out of the mainstream of public opinion. However, I respect your views and acknowledge that the big world we live in caters for the weird as well as the normal. |

Well done Bil! Your talents have been recognised. The only thing which stops me jumping in to many of these debates is that bil has more time and usually speaks as eloquently as anyone on the subject. I say usually because sometimes his frustration pops out...as would mine. ;)
Could it be that we live in such a sterile world nowadays that any distraction is jumped on? Who remembers that Royal wedding for anything other than Kate's bum? What about the current riots all over London? They're not bothered about the shooting of a daft drugs dealer, these people just want to throw stones at the police and loot shops. People are bored, they need heroes, they need to let off steam to save them from the incredible boredom of logic. I might go out and hug a couple of trees later on. |
