The same as in the UK if they built a highspeed train link from Southampton to Waterloo but cut out the small village stops such as mine. The commuters would have to rely on cars or lose their jobs in London. That is what has happened in some areas of andalucía
Well, they seem to be intent on building the London to Birmingham high-speed line in the UK. Surprisingly too, as a lot of objections have come from Tory areas along the route.

As for cercanias - they have good services around cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia etc. Could it be the case that a lot of work around Marbella is seasonal ie very little commuting done in the winter months? I'm just speculating there - it'd be interesting to see any relevant figures for that area.

Interesting news, and great for Spain if they get the contract. Hope they've priced it right though!

Let's hope that none of these are recalled for breaks/stearing/accelerator faults and we can show the world that we can still make something.

I believe the problems Toyota have had recently were in supply parts that were fitted by most of it's factories around the world and not down to just one location.

I have just heard on Radio 4 their CEO saying that even if they had won this contract all other current contracts are coming to an end and there would have to be redundancies

Govt person said that they kept to the EU tendering regime knowing fullwell that France and Germany "arrange" (my word not his) for their companies to get business rather than outsiders. It isnt possible to change the supplier for this project. To cancel and go to another tender round was not possible as project is already 15 years late due to Labour doing nothing.

Remember that Labour gave away another contract worth about £7.5 Bn a couple of years ago. I presume that that would have given continuity of work plus a possibility of having to increase the workforce.

when in Spain why do I find the buses and trains (especially the new Malaga airport rail link) far superior to those I have to use in the UK ?? (that includes the new buses we have just received in this part of UK)

With absolutely no sign of any shame or irony, Theresa Villiers, rail minister, said “Today’s announcement is further proof of the Government’s commitment to investing in Britain’s future,”
