6 month stay a year
Hello
does anyone know if I can obtain residency in Spain as I intend to live there 6 months a year but can I then return to UK for 6 months. Would i have to re apply for residency again to go back to Spain for another 6 months? Im a bit confused.
Thanks

Residency is for residents ie people who intend to establish their main home/residence, declare for tax etc not people who move around for extended periods.

Residencia as we all know it is in fact signing on the Foreigners Register and is legally the correct thing anyone living in Spain over 90 days should do ( yes many don't bother). There is nothing to stop you obtaining residencia of course you must comply with the requirements mainly sufficient funds to support yourself and health cover. As far as I am aware if you stay 6 months (taking account of 183 day fiscal residency rule), you can be resident but not fiscal/tax resident. If you intend returning to live in Spain the following year then you don't need to cancel and retake out residencia? That's my understanding but I may be wrong. It really depends whether you want to pay out for health insurance? If you go the S1 route to prove health cover I believe you will need to sign off your current UK doctors as they will assume you are full time in Spain.
