3 ways coffee can save your life

I always thought Americans drank a lot of coffee, but when I moved to Spain, I realized that most of us are total lightweights compared to my new espresso-swilling amigos. Sevillanos drink their coffee strong enough to reanimate the dead, late enough in the evenings to cause permanent insomnia, and in quantities that should make them too jittery to lift the next cup to their lips. But are they suffering from all this overindulgence? No, they’re getting healthier with every cup. Turns out just about everything I once thought about coffee isn’t true at all.

Spaniards drink espressos? That's news to me!
It's a pointless article because as we know, six American coffees are nothing like 6 Spanish or Italian coffees.
Andalucian coffees are particularly strong, probably have six times as much cafeine as an American one

Oh dear, another publication J2 disapproves of.. (funny how she never criticised it when DD links there)
As it happens I'm fine if someone calls a "cafe solo" an "expresso". To me it's mere nit-picking. There again I didn't really see much wrong with the expression "a relaxing cup of cafe con leche"....

This a serious problem with potentially tragic consequences. A personal example is my best friend who was killed by coffee.
He was run over by a Nescafé lorry!

Oh, I miss the coffee culture in spain
Coffee here usually comes from a vending maching (even in cafeterias) and if you get breakfast coffee in a hotel/hostal it'll almost certainly be a sachet of Nescafe powder and a flask of hot water.

There are still hidden health hazards, I find the coffee so strong I need to put loads of sugar in to make it palatable

A few years ago I read in a UK newspaper article that having a cup or two of strong coffee every day helps prevent Alzheimers! Can't rememember the reasoning behind it, but since then have made a point of having a cup every day.. Cafe con leche is my weakness.

The line in the article I struggle with is where it says "helps to control Parkinson´s symptoms" ???
Then again, I guess if you drink like the Spanish do, (with Brandy) it might just work!

Seriously, I ask for a mitad, and they ask me "Qué quieres, señorita?" And that señorita isn't because I look young and attractive, it's said in that disapproving tone your mother uses when she uses your middle name as well as your first name because you're in trouble.
So I explain, coffee half and half with milk, and they look at me for a while and then say "Cafe con leche" and bring me a freakin' nube.
Jackytoo, Chile is a fanstastic country for getting around and seeing things, whether travelling around the country/continent or just day-trip distances from santiago. I've seen some beautiful places and amazing sights. But in terms of day-to-day lifestyle (at least here in Santiago) it's not a patch on Spain
Coffee, cheese and chocolate are all crap.
