Default 2.4 Dish

Hi
My neighbour in spain has a 2.4m dish, would it be possible (with his permission) to connect to it without any interferance to his picture quality? Looking for the best way to get uk tv and freeview, thanks

As far as I am aware you can get up to 4 users off one dish. I don't think it affects quality. So if the disk doesn't already have the maximum you would have to fit a multi port LNB (they come in 1, 2 or 4 ports) and all should be OK. I'm sure I will soon be corrected if that's wrong.

Yes "if" their LNB has a spare connector, likely as they are most probably using an Invacom quad.
No it will not interfere with their signal quality if done right.

Yes.
As long as he has a spare output on his LNB, or you upgrade to a twin or 4 output LNB, then you just need to run cable from that LNB to your receiver.
You can even run more than 4 cables from a LNB, but that when it gets into more expensive multiswitch distribution kits that are used in communities and houses that want more than 4 output for things like Sky+, Sky HD and Freesat+. In theory you can have an infinate amount of receivers using one dish!

Running another cable for you will not interfere with the quality on his system - unelss the cable is done incorrectly and causes a short in the system!

With a FREESAT box or Sky box with no card, you will get the free to air BBC ITV C4 and Five and 200plus other channels.

With a freesatfromsky card and a sky box you will gain access to some stonger ITV1 regions, strionger irish c4 regions, stronger five, fiver, five usa sky 3 liverpool fc tv and Vivia TV.

You cannot get freeview in SPain. Freeview is a UK ONLY digital services via TV aerial and land based transmitter masts - the enarest is in cornwall is is no where near as owerful to be received in Spain. And not all the channels on Freeview are available for free on satellite - channels like Dave and Yesterday are free on freeview but are PAY on satellite.

Assuming he is ok with connecting to his dish, what else would we require and is there any subscription charges, thanks

no monthly it's all free..buy a freesat hd box..you will get 2 free hd channels aswell.
i use both the sky box and freesat..the freesat is slightly better at holding the signal and picture quality

Should be no problems - even with the extra for routing the cable nicely...

Possible LNB upgrade -
Cable
Receiver (Sky, Freesat, Sky+, Freesat+, Generic FTA) - the "+" allow watching of one channel whilst recording another at the same time - Sky+ requires a monthly payment for this, Freesat+ does not - but ideally the Sky+ and Freesat+ receivers need TWO cables from the dish to the receiver.

The receiver you requrie will depend on what channels you want to watch.

And some receivers are better than others at holding the signals.

There are no monthly subscription charges for the free to air (no sky card requried) channels as they are erm free.

There are no monthly subscription charges for the free to view (freesatfromsky card requried) channels - but the freesatfropmsky card is a one off cost of £20 in the UK and a bit more in Spain (although in Spain they are preactiavted)

If you want to have the sky pay TV channels, then you wuill have to subscribe - starting from £18 per month up to £55 per month depending on what channels you want!

If it is a holiday place and you have SKy in the UK , then you can use ANY sky card in ANY sky receiver and receive most channels - but NOT the Sky sport or Sky Movie channels, as these will be locked into the Sky box thatt he sky card is paired to.

BBC HD should be there all day - the freesat free to air ITV HD channel will go off mid afternoon though...its on a weak frequency...but you can stil get some on the freesat hD red button service - whilst this is still operating.

Again, many of the UK TV channels on Freeview are available for free on satellite..BBC ITV C4 Five (although some of these (C4 Five Fiver Five USA) do require a freesatfromsky card to watch them in the evening / at night as they available on a stronger frequency as long as you have a sky card).

But some of those channels on Freeview, like Dave, Sky Sports News, are only available with a Sky subscription on satellite.

All BBC Channels, ALL ITV channels, ALL C4 channels and Five are available for free with no sky card and ANY digital satellite receiver.
(although reception of some of these free to air channels will be lost during mid to late afternoon)

These channels are free on freeview but require a sky "freesatfromsky" card to watch on satellite (£20 in the uK):
Fiver
Five USA
(and also reuqired for stronger versions of Five, ITV1 and C4s - as Five and C4 will not be avilable from late afternoon / early evening on the "no card" versions)

These channels are free on freeview but require a sky subscription to watch on satellite:
Dave
Dave ja vue
Virgin1
Quest
Yesterday
4 Music
Sky SPorts News
To get these all channels Freeview channels on Satellite you wil need to pay SKy £20 per month.

So in answer to your question yes...but depending exactly WHICH channels she want will determine what system is required in spain, free to air (no card) , free to view (freesatfromsky card) or subscription (sky subscription card).
