14 day quarantine on return from Spain
Doubtful to affect expats living in Spain but quite a problem for short term stays or holidaymakers.

It will affect expats if they are going to UK for a holiday, or collecting grandchildren to holiday with them in Spain. In latter case, they only stay in UK for a few days and travel back with grandchildren - not good if they have to self-isolate 14 days. Or they are expecting family from UK for a visit, who may now have to cancel it because they cannot self-isolate without great difficulty (e.g. teachers at the start of term) or may be losing pay.

It is another sad example of mismanagement and conflicting messages from UK plc. Do you think Doris Senior self-isolated after his trip to Greece?

Apparently, the Transport Secretary, who is in charge of this, flew out to Spain with his family on holiday yesterday. You couldnt make it up!

It's almost inconceivable he wouldn't have known it was coming so quite possible that he flew out yesterday while he still could.
Self isolation will be no problem for him and he won't have to worry about getting his employer to let him work from home on full pay.

I am actually quite shocked that senior members of government would consider going on holiday at a time when they are supposed to be steering the country through this crisis.

The only thing that surprises me is they no longer even attempt to hide their misdeeds. The contempt by the ruling class for the "herd" is astonishing.

I think you will find that essential workers do not need to quarantine . So the Transport Secretary wont need to quarantine. I expect he will as it will become another totally over obsessed tabloid story that serves no good for anyone but that's how the UK likes to deal with things

Oh yes and let's remember that we are all in this together...unless.....you are a diplomat, a racing, driver, a premier league footballer ....because after all our world wouldn't survive without the essential contribution of these people!!!

It seemed obvious, to me at least, back in April when releasing the lock-downs was first discussed, that any "corridors" could close as quickly as they were opened, and that reopened business sectors and/or cities/regions could also be locked back down again equally quickly. Therefore, and I said this somewhere on BE, booking international travel and accommodation was going to remain a crap-shoot until this pandemic is over, whether by vaccinations or otherwise. You might find you can travel, but get there and find that bars and restaurants are closed, or have booked accommodation and find that quarantine rules prevent you from leaving your room for the duration of your stay, or you might be quarantined on your return home.
The permutations for things to go wrong in just a few days ahead are considerable, therefore I am astounded that people jumped on airline tickets as soon as travel was allowed, apparently without a second thought, as currently things are developing precisely as I expected.
Maybe I shouldn't be "astounded" though, because if I have learned one thing so far since March, it is that there are even more idiots in the world than I had previously imagined, and they exhibit a whole rainbow of shades and flavours of idiocy.

Not everyone travels for holidays you know. Some people live in Spain but have family who are old who have been alone for months. Some dont have the luxury to stay in their villas. Some have to work for a living. So some of us were forced to take a punt. Doesnt make us fools.More the fool who thinks he knows the future.
