Default 125cc Moped

I´ve just been told that the UK driving license has down graded it´s moped/motobike engine size from 125cc to 50cc
The reason I´m asking if anyone can clarify is because I´m considering buying one to get to and from work more easily.
However, if the option is only 50cc, I think I´ll buy a mountain bike!

If the information I´ve been given is incorrect and 125cc bikes are still allowed, can anyone recommend a good dealer in the Malaga area?

Thanks all ...

is that not for new drivers, what ever your entitled too when you passed still exists,

I am in the middle of a issue with the DVLA as for some reason when I changed my licence to a new one, some entitlements is missing, (7.5ton etc)

They say I can have it put back subject to a medical, but although I will do that for £xxx I don't see why I should so it has been escalated. ]

The new site explaining entitlements is also not easy to understand

I never looked before but the bloody bikes are missing too aggghhh, I have a case with them as I still have my original licence from 94 but I think this happens to people without them knowing.

I´ll be very interested in how you get on. I received my driving license 20 years ago and was unaware of any changes.
I had to renew my license when I was living in Ireland after having my wallet stolen. The Irish license lets me ride a 50cc, a van and a tractor!!! ... but I just thought that was because it was Irish ... no offence meant

If you have a UK or Spanish car licence and have had it for 3 years then you can drive a 125cc bike in Spain.

The UK will conform to the EU licencing rules which give mopeds of 50cc the new AM class and 125cc bikes the A1 class.

Its simple, they say I need to have a medical to get the entitlement back (at my expense) I say I should not have too.

I only noticed it as you know we are moving over and me as always leaves things til the last minute, so I looked at hiring a 7.5tonner to bring our gear over, and to get the price I had to give my DL number, then they say no you cant, then I looked at the licence and its all missing.

I think what it all comes down to is for some stupid reason when I was young I ticked the box to say I wear glasses which I don't, anyway to cut a long story short my eyes deteriorated over time and I got pulled up for speeding from a mobile cam, me and the WPC started did a licence check and it came back I needed glasses, we had a small argument and although I was not wearing them luckily I had a pair in the car, we did the test without and I read the plate from the req'd distance without a issue, but if it was at night ill hold my hands up and say its not possible, so I was let off to go but told to put the spec's on as my DL said I had too, anyway I got nicked for the speeding and I did not do the fixed penalty, it went to court a fair time later and there was issues with the WPC's statement (because she had a bee in her bonet about the eyesight issue) and I walked out with the CPS giving no evidence, after all this I had my eyes lasered and then sent my licence back for a new one as it was 10+ year old and asked for the need to wear glasses to be taken off as I have no problem now with reading from a distance day or night.

I think this whole removed entitlement and having to have a medical all comes down to the above and they want to know my eyesight is ok, I think with the officer losing the case she has had a dealing with the DVLA to put me into this situation.

I guess had I paid the fixed penalty I would not be in this position, having only just found out about all this I am not sure I can have the medical, and entitlement put on before we move, the DVLA say it will take 3 weeks after the medical which is not too long to be fair.

The good news if any is that I don't have to have another driving test which I know some people have been asked to do.

If you'll travel to Marbella can recommend Ortiz Motos. Really friendly, really helpful and price matched (and chucked in some bits) on a new Honda PCX 125 that I got two years ago. It's a godsend having it this time of year, put in about 7€ of fuel every couple of months, tax is about 7€ a year and insurance is 190€
