Young British Couple need advice on living the social life in Singapore
Hi guys,
My fiance and I are moving to Singapore for my work this month. We are excited but mildly hesitant and majorly apprehensive regarding how we meet people socially.
We are leaving our friends here in Perth Wa which is alway tough. What makes things harder is the fact that my fiance will hold a Tourist Visa until January when she will start studying. We could really do with an insight into daily life and social life for expats NOT wanting to drink every night.
My partner is an artist and jewellery designer and we wonder if there were any groups - during the day or at night who she could join up with. She is also big on dance and if there were any expatcentric dance groups she could get her teeth stuck into.
I am a football(soccer) boy thru and thru and would love to join a 11 a side team out in Singa - so if anyone could recommend these that would be great.
Any help or people in the same situation - feel free to message me.
Cheers

Chris, Singapore is a very social place so do not worry. There are tons of things to do, clubs, sports, you name it.
As well as google take a look at meetup.com. I know that Bocat on here is a big fan and there's certainly loads of groups in Singapore last time I looked.

A smooth move to you, chrisjanson!
Yes, bakedbean is right. The meetup group is called - Singapore International Ladies Group.
I am not in Singapore yet, but will be there very soon too, and would need myself to meet people and make friends. This group has a lot of activities, and maybe your fiance might like only some of them, but at least this would be a first step forward. Sharing experiences and hobbies will bring needed information.
That is how I would like to start. But, I guess other options would be good too.
Drop me message if you fiance would like to meet me there.

No I'm talking about meetup.com. There are a lot of different groups meeting up not just that one you're talking about.

Glad to see SILG is proving popular!! Bakedbean is right though - you won't be stuck for a social life in Singapore - there is loads to do and www.meetup.com has a wealth of different groups to join.
Not sure where you're going to be working but a lot of the bigger companies have their own footie teams, tennis clubs etc too.

I am here in Singapore, having recently moved in, in. Sep. meant to be looking at moving to JB but looking for a job in Singapore at the moment.
I have written to the Singapore International Ladies Group weeks back, but haven't heard back.
It was hard leaving my Lon&Bristol friends behind after so many years...
Wonder if it is alright for me to jump in for an event in Sing. if I may be on my way out in the (near-ish) future ?

Hi LanternsB
Not sure what you mean that you wrote to the SILG. To join just go to the home page and hit the "Join Us" button and then fill in the info.
If you e-mailed me as the Organiser I apologise if I haven't replied. I didn't have Internet for 7 weeks when we moved into our new place and was attempting to do everything on my phone through 3G (not good for my eyesight) - so I know I have loads of e-mails to catch up on.
And of course you can still join even if you're thinking of moving to Johor. Then you can join JILG too

Hi sorry, Bocat
I hadn't realised you were the organiser of SILG.
No problems about the email I wrote to "contact". You were moving ...
I joined the sing. group last night any way to end my boredom.
Was a little tentative about joining in the first place after an embarrassing attempt to join another sing. group (somewhere else...) and was told I don't qualify ! I wasn't sure if I would be stepping into a cultural blind spot since I am hoping to move to JB.
Many thanks for the heart warming welcome at SILG.
Kind regards
LanternsB
