Hi, my husband has been offered a position in Singapore, I am wondering whether I will be able to work whilst out there or whether I can hairdress at home or clients homes? Also we have a dog which I dont want to leave behind so does anyone know if it will be a problem? Thank you

Hi. You should be able to bring the dog in to Singapore. You may (officially) have to rent a house though, as usually you cannot have dogs in condos. There's a few threads on this subject on this forum, so do have a browse through.
I'm not sure about the work aspect. Hopefully someone based in Singapore will answer that question.
Have you visited Singapore before? It's changed quite a bit over the years and rather expensive currently IMO but a great place to experience. Enjoy

Hi, many thanks for your answer. No, I have never been to Singapore but my husband has been there quite a few times on business trips. I understand its a very clean and safe Country to be in, tax is low but can be expensive. We would be looking to stay for a few years with a view of retiring early (hopefully) and visit nearby Countries would be a bonus.

You'll probably already know that Singapore Changi is about the best airport in the world and a joy to travel through. Yes plenty of nearby countries to check out for trips.
We worked/lived in Singapore 2005 to end 2007 and then early retired. The low taxes in Singapore certainly helped for saving for retirement.

Yes, I've heard from a couple of girl friends that Changi is great for shopping (whilst in transit) although I guess exploring Singapore would be great fund. I'm glad you managed to retire early!! Although we would want to save we would like to get the balance right, we want to embrace the experience and do some exploring too

I wouldn't normally answer a thread with this title as I'm not a dog lover.

But iirc dogs are allowed in Condos but theoretically not in HDBs or not more than one dog anyway or not too large a dog.
Moslems don't like dogs so please be aware of that.
'clean and safe country' is relative and it's certainly not as clean and safe as it used to be.
In fact litter is becoming a problem imo.
Hairdressing, well I'd say there are over 25 salons within 100m of where I live and that is not unusual, but home visits might go down quite well especially if you live in a big condo unit with a high %age of ex pats.
Whether you intend your business to be part of the black economy would be your choice but I'm not sure you should go down that line, if that was your intention.
Otherwise with the correct visa it shouldn't be a problem.

Is that official then exReg... About dogs in condos.
In Penang officially dogs not allowed in condos, but no-one seems to take a blind bit of notice of the rules.

There were quite a few dogs in our last condo and most of my friends who have dogs live in condos. But each condo will have it's own rules so best to check before you view something.

Forgot to say - your hairdressing services will definitely be in high demand.
Salons here charge an arm and a leg so if you worked from home and did it cheaper you'd have plenty clients.
Also very few Asian hairdressers know how to do blonde properly (I speak from experience!!) so bring plenty of colour with you!
As ex reg says - better to keep it above board - and it's very easy to set up a business here.

Hey dollymixture10!
Importing a dog can be pretty easy and require no quarantine, but the key is which country you are coming over from. If it's the UK, then there should be no problems whatsoever.
You ARE allowed to have a dog in a condo, but you would need to check with the landlord because even if the condo allows it, the landlord may not. The condo bylaws typically prohibit dogs from the common areas e.g. around the pools etc. and require dog owners to clean up after them.
You will also need an annual dog license which you get from AVA in Singapore.
See the following for details on importing a pet into Singapore:

and here for the license:
