Jobs in Singapore
Hello everyone,
We're a UK-based couple, both working in public relations and very keen to further our careers in Singapore.
Obviously we completely understand that the Singapore economy is in a recession at the moment, but wondered if anyone had any advice on how the public relations market is doing at the moment or any companies / recruitment consultants they could recommend? We've been thinking about moving to Singapore for a while - and don't want to put it off if we don't have to!
My partner has had around eight years experience and I've been in the industry as a PR Manager for just over three years.
Thanks very much all - and looking forward to hearing from you!

Re: Jobs in Singapore
I do know people in the industry but I'm not sure how you'd get into the local market without a transfer, sorry. Especially in these times, employers will be loathe to sponsor you (have you looked into work permits, Employment Passes?) or to pay you the premium usually associated with employing expat staff.
You could try contacting the well-known internationals, but I think you'd have to have something pretty special to get an EP at the moment. Local agencies like the one my very good friend runs wouldn't pay you enough to live there.
May I ask why you are targetting Singapore? Not that I don't love it (lived there for 6 years until last May) but it wasn't somewhere we'd thought of moving until an opportunity came up.

I must admit I rarely mention those as I don't know how they work. Can you give us a quick summary? I've just had a quick look at the MOM site and all I can find is info about changing to one after having an initial EP.

I've just had mine approved. Switching from P1. Actually got a letter from the MOM urging me to do it promising it would be handled within 2 weeks. Got approval within 10 days.

if you are earning $7000 sing prior to moving out here and have the relevant qualifications and experience you can get a Personal Employment Pass. A pass not tied to any job. Has the advantage of giving you 6 months here without work.
