Hi,
Im considering moving to Singapore just for a complete change of scenery.
Im a British GP, and so I am interested in any information anyone can provide me regarding the healthcare system, standard of living for English GP plying his trade in Singapore, relative to the cost of living. Also, anything about regulations, examinations etc that might be required, and any expat Medical Society or similar that might make an alternative first point of contact to the recruitment agencies such as Latitudes.
Anyone who is or knows of a British GP, please get in touch as a first hand account would be invaluable!
Kind regards,
Damian

Hi Damian,
Welcome to BE!
I can't help you with your query I'm afraid as I am in the US, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can share some pointers. In the meantime have a read through the other threads and get to know everyone.
If you get stuck on anything on the site please do not hesitate to give me a shout.

Some background stuff as I'm not a GP.
GPs here have two options:
Either the Polyclinic system which is government run and in my opinion just a triage set up for hospital consultants.
Many doctors involved from other countries.
If not Polyclinic then there are a number of privately run medical groups with surgeries island wide.
I expect the pay in these would be a lot higher than Polyclinics but again imo they are there to refer patients to the private hospitals associated with the
medical groups.
I suspect that the salaries for GPs would be much lower here than in UK.
And the cost of living here is higher than UK.
Overall I'd say that your standard of living here would be lower than you have in UK.
Many of the doctors I've seen here have received their training in UK.
Just to give you some basic ball park figures for costs.
Buy a 3 bed condo - S$2.5million
Rent a 3 bed condo - S$5,000 per month
Buy a1.6l car - S$130,000
Those are my idea of the average costs, of course you'll find lower and higher but that is what I reckon you'd want to pay as the least wrt your position here as a professional.
I'll find it interesting to read other views on this
