I worked there for year in 1999, and could not wait for the year to be up
Montreal -- in contrast -- is lively but job prospects, what need I say?

I'm a country bumpkin, & as such, enjoy visiting Ottawa more than Mtl, 'cos it's a more manageable & "quieter" city, to me. Also, my perspective is slightly skewed by 17 yrs in rural (I.e. Unilingual French) Qc, & a mild hankering for a more bilingual lifestyle ;-).
I suspect it may be easier for the OP find a 1st Canadian job on Ottawa rather than Mtl, too. However, I maintain that for either, "boots on the ground" is the only way to go.
Job prospects all over, have narrowed a lot in the last couple of years, I think :-(

So, latest update is job secured as an anglophone.
The process took a while and there were a lot of barriers to overcome in the selection process.
This includes something like 8 or 9 out of 10 jobs requiring bilingualism, recruiters ignoring resumes because they are in English, recruiters liking the resume but the hiring manager needing someone bilingual, etc.
All in all, that really cut down the options but there are still quite a few companies advertising and recruiting in English in Montreal. The bigger companies that are Canada wide tend to be the most open to it or the smaller companies actually run by anglos.
I will provide some updates on my first few months to see how it goes.

Also, to stress one has a perfect mastery of both languages
Montreal is not quite a dead zone yet, although who knows what will happen if, and when, Pauline gets back in?

I speak french fluently however my written french is horrible. As i work in hr this is proving to me hard for me. Takes me about 5 minutes to write a simple email and i am starting to lose confidence in my abilities. After taking into account all factors i've decided to leave the job and settle somewhere else like gatineau and look for jobs in ottawa. Feels like im wasting my time here tbf
