My point is....that you said that they aren't really govt controlled...and my point is...yes they are.....because they receive at least 50% of the funding from the feds/prov...so when the govts at either level cut the budget...the universities make cuts are well.
FYI, Canadian students get their education directly through loans (OSAP), not through the university. The funding only goes to building facilities and buying computers, etc. And recently, to building a subway line directly into the university.

That is all about living in a capitalist society.....by paying taxes we help support others....and remember you took advantage of this......What do you think would happen if the govts decided to completely cut funding to the universities.....the cost would become "out of reach"for almost everyone.....so yes they do deserve credit....Dan old boy
I don't buy that. I know of quite a lot of universities in Lebanon that are not funded by the government, and they are going well, and they have pretty good educational 'standards', and students get scholarships, and the tuition fees are quite 'bearable' for the locals. If the Canadians somehow don't know how to run their universities efficiently, then I feel sorry for them.

You did get something back dingdong....you were a foreign student and Canada allowed you space in a canadian university to receive a university degree from a credited university in Canada, which is more than some Canadians born and raised here ever got.
Bullshit. Pure bullshit. I received a space because my grades were much higher than 90% of the Canadian students applying. I received a space because they wamted to milk $16,000 / year in tuition from me.

What the hell more do you want free toilet paper with that. If you didn't want to pay the tuition fees then get your post-secondary education where you came from. Why are we so lucky to have you honour us with your presence?
lmao... So let's see, hmm... Somehow, the education I got was more "valuable" than the education other students (domestic) received from my university? I paid thrice as much tuition exactly for what, from the perspective of the university (even if I were willing to pay it)? What would the university give as an answer to that question? What exactly were the costs to the univ that a non-domestic student registered, that I had to pay thee times the tuition compared to my domestic counterparts? Just wondering. Yes, I paid it willingly, I'm not saying anything about that, or complaining. But just explain to me why the cost is so high.

That's right buddy - it's still a right to earn a PR....did you really expect us to just hand you a PR because you earn a degree here and received an award....tell me another story....I'm getting bored....you really expect the world to give you everything on a platter don't you?
Expect the world to give me everything on a platter? Me? Haha... Puhleeeez. I worked my ass off to be who I am right now, in many ways, not just educational. You don't know anything about me, so don't assume that I've always gotten what I've wanted, and that it has always been easy for me. Because it hasn't. I've FOUGHT and still FIGHT for my beliefs. Every day. With people like you, with people who are ARMED with insults and hurdles, and sometimes guns. Do I look like I'm someone who expects the world to give them everything on a platter????

Of course the system helped you to "earn" the degree...were you not given a place in a university to work towards that degree;Did you not have professors, room and board, etc. to aid in getting the education. So you earned your own way through university in a capitalist society I might add......well, so did I buddy boy, and I have 2 degrees and worked every summer to help pay for my education. ...so we both had to work hard to get our degrees.......please, stop the cockodile tears, you're breaking my heart.....there are many other kids that had to do the same thing. I don't begudge the fact that I had to work my ass off for 6 years.....in fact it has assisted me in every way.
Fine. Let's say the system has indeed helped me to "earn" the degree. One could argue, then, along similar lines, that slavery actually "saved" a lot of blacks from malnourishment, starvation, disease, and death in Africa. Does that mean it's right? Well, does it?

No one is telling you where you can and can't live Dan old boy.....the point is that I think you should be sharing some of that wonderful positive attitude with others who think like you.....because your principles will never materialize in the Canada that I know and love........
My principles might never materialise, but that doesn't mean I won't be fighting for them.

I must add, I don't wish to turn this thread into a political one. There's already the other thread for that.

What seems to be the problem here?

Back to talking about PR. My grandmother used to have one of those shiny cards. She now has a shiny passport.
