To all the moaners in the UK about prescription charges being 7.50 quid per item:
Count yourself lucky, a rellie of mine paying into the SS in Spain for the last 40 odd years, is nearly sixty, deemed fit for work,is paying 310 euros a month, for medication takes about 11 tablets a day, and will do so for the rest of her life.
That is with the subsidy for being employed, she would love to pay 7.50per item, as anyone would in her situation.
That is what it is like for the working, ill Spainsh, ofcourse the UK pensioners who get theirs paid for by the UK obvioulsy dont know the cost to the locals.
Of course the intergrated would know that.
And with a "season ticket" for drugs then there is no need for griping at the UK cost is there,

Why should I leave the forum, for bringing bad news?
Well if you let me stay on, I will balance my post with some good news about medication in Spain........
While the cost of prescrition drugs are sky high and not capped at 7.50 per item, the cost of illegal ones is going down all the time.......

I have seen pensioners (I assume) going in with a prescription and getting free drugs, but of course I dont know their status

Black prescriptions are paid for at full price, green prescriptions are paid for at a reduced price and red prescriptions are free. Our prescription request forms now have the costs of the medications on them and I have been pleasantly surprised to find that both of my tablets are just over 3 euros per month whereas in the UK it would be the standard charge for each of them.

This is actually an important consideration for those of us still hoping to retire to Spain. I had wondered why various countries (including Spain and the UK) were increasing the retirement age when there obviously isn't enough work for those in their 40s or 50s (never mind half the youngsters who don't have a job). But part of it means, I suppose, is that fewer free prescriptions are handed out. It does mean that the cost of any prescriptions that can't be got over the counter, have to be added to budget calculations. I have to say (from a purely selfish pov) well done to JLFS for pointing this out. Heavens knows why J2 attacked him for this, I would have thought it added to her consistently anti-Spain bias. Perhaps she still doesn't believe he is who he claims to be?

Don't ask me, not sure how it works out like that.

Her post was loaded with smilies, I took it to be in jest! And given JLFS answered with a smilie, I'm sure that's the way he took it. You've obviously got a fixed opinion of the poster and reading something that wasn't there. Her attempt at humour was wasted.

Fair enough. I can't say I understand the joke, but these things aren't always funny to everyone.
