I don't think I'd get offered any extras in a Korean barber (or bath house..).

There used to be one of those 'I before E, except after C' rules about the shop owner.. I never tipped when the owner did my hair.

Coming from paying no (or much much smaller) tips in the UK its really difficult to gauge what is acceptable over here.

Tip? Hell man, the barber should have kissed you when s/he was done f**king you

Mrs tonrob cuts my hair. I know it's probably not normal to tip your wife but I usually give her one.

We live in NYC and my husband gets his hair cut at the barber shop down the street. It costs $15. He gived them a $5 tip but he also knows I depend on tips to make a living.

I have to admit our eyes were opened to tipping when our daughter started waiting tables. As Brits most of us aren't used to tipping because employees are normally paid a decent wage...so receiving an odd tip here and there is just icing on the cake...not bread and butter as it is here.

The woman who cuts my hair is the salon owner she charges about $45. When discussing this with a friend (an American) who also gets her haircut by her, she said that you shouldn't tip the salon owner?? I didn't know that and have always tipped her.

If she is good and has a high demand for her services, you may find it difficult to get an appointment with her if you don't tip. Also if it is a small salon, the owner may be struggling also to get her business going.
