Any ideas where to stay? Vancouver
#1
Hi, I have to go to Vancouver in May this year to sit midwifery exams at the University of British Columbia. The only problem being that I need to be there from 28th April - 22nd May so I cannot afford to stay in a swanky hotel for all this time. I need somewhere fairly central as I'm hoping to do a recce of the area whilst I am there to scout out a potential area to eventually settle in. I have looked at the possibilities of hostels, but I'm not too keen on staying in a dormitory - I need somewhere I can revise in peace. The University can only provide accomodation from 15 May onwards.
Any suggestions/recommendations?

One poster stayed at the YWCA Hotel and recommended it. Another is staying there later this month. It is right downtown, but is clean, comfortable, safe and cheap.

My sister lives in Dunbar, but is planning to move to Nanaimo, otherwise I would suggest to contact her. She takes students in her basement and she gets them from an agency. I can't remember the name of the agency but I do know that they find accommodation short and long term in all areas of Vancouver. If you are interested, I can ask her. All I can remember is that the lady who runs the agency is called Marilyn -- not of much use!!
It might be

I found that by Googling student accommodation agency in Vancouver. There are others.

I have had it recommended to me by more than one person, and I'll report back on how it is!

You will easily find a sublet around 1st May when all the students leave town, but these won't be advertised until end March probably.
Checkout these for UBC area

this is powered by craigslist or the real thing

You just need a few days booked while you look for somewhere
