Hi All,
Advice needed! My husband has just been offered a job in Bristol and so we're moving back to England from Dublin after 6 years away. It's all happening very fast and I'm a bit shell shocked.
We'd decided we wanted to move back for family reasons (I have a young toddler and have missed family support). Now it's come to the crunch I'm getting cold feet about leaving as we live in a very peaceful and safe part of Dublin and to be honest England sounds damn awful at the moment!
Are we doing the right thing? And on top of that, where would you live in the Bristol area that would give us a nice family life, not too expensive and not too much of a horrendous commute to the city centre (preferably by train).
Thanks in advance for your help!

Maybe Stoke Gifford and area? A short train ride from Bristol Parkway gets you to the centre, with the advantage of Parkway to London.

I thought things were pretty bad economically in Ireland? A colleague in Dublin said at her place they have all had to accept significant salary cuts.

You may also want to consider Keynsham - between Bath and Bristol. Small town on direct line in to Bristol

I used to live in Backwell, south of Bristol. That's quite a convenient place, on the railway line. I also lived in Wrington, which is a very nice village, but public transport was limited.

From: Bristol, at the moment.......

Hello, I live in Bristol but am about to leave for New Zealand. Bristol's house prices have sky rocketed in the last 10 years so be prepared for either high rentals or high selling prices. Southville/Bedminster is very popular as you can walk into town but prices are high. Being on the train will restrict you but some opt for Yatton which is in between Bristol and Clevedon. We live in Westbury on Trym which is a lovely village near the city, luckily we got a really good deal on the rent. Look on gumtree.com for houses.
Good luck

Quite a bit longer too.
I bought my house for £17,500 in 1984. By 1990 it was around £45k. Something like £120k around 2000 and I sold it for £156k in 2005.
Last year it sold for £189k.
Well, they didn't stay long. Just saw it's been sold again in June. £192,500
