I deal with a lot of clients so, eventually, because everybody wishes you a "nice day" you feel that you "have to" do the same to be polite.. I thinks it's a bit like saying sorry/please and thank you all the time in England.. you don't say it because you mean it, it's just how the language is.. When I go back to Spain I'm a big source of amusement for saying please and thank you so much, wait till they hear me say "have a nice day" ..

I have noticed the "please" and "thank you" thing. Sometimes, back in the UK, I said it because I really meant it but often it was a routine, courtesy, social nicety thingy..a bit like "have a nice day" here.

I don't say " have a nice day" much because I feel like a klutz when I do, so I tend to respond with "same to you".
Equally I have had funny looks here when I have used the full "UK" quota of please and thankyous.
I was also used to saying "bye" after the final "thank you" and that isn't done as much here.
Horses for courses.

I like:
  • My Jeep Wrangler
  • Playing with firearms (Yay for friends with guns)
  • Vermont in general
  • Magic Hat Beer
  • Everything is cheaper

Things I like Less
  • TSA
  • Religious Right
  • Cops with attitude
